It's very unusual for a federal case to go from indictment to verdict in one year. Two to three years is more common. So, although this case seems clear cut, with evidence that doesn't depend on interpretation -- after all, he was caught red handed with effing top secret documents in Mar a Lago after his lawyers signed an affidavit that everything had been turned over to NARA. This isn't a he said-she said case. Cold hard facts are front and center for the prosecution to present to the jury. And Yet. Trump's team will file motion after motion for continuance. They will drag the schedule out. I think they will manage to delay it past the date of the election. So, we just have to suck it up and wait a while longer. (insert childish impatience from the peanut gallery here)Donald is going down and the timing is very interesting, he might have months to rip the GOP a part demanding loyalty for a lost cause. He could win the nomination or be the front runner and suddenly be incarcerated in NY or federally on other charges. Even the case before Cannon could be settled before the election. We have yet to hear anything about his document's crimes in NJ or of others involved in the documents and obstruction cases. There are plenty of more shoes to drop, it will be raining footwear until election day. He will be demanding that republicans tie themselves to the tracks for him with a freight train approaching at high speed.
I'm not too concerned about Cannon delaying things, there will be plenty of other indictments soon enough, perhaps even mail and wire fraud over the stop the steal grift. Maybe that's why Donald seems to be more concerned about the DC J6 charges than the docs, justice might be swifter in DC. Then there is NY where he is looking at serious time too and a December trial date. You have plenty of "insurance" with Donald since he committed so many crimes that are easy to prove. Someone will have him in a cage by election day, maybe even by the GOP convention.
Meanwhile, you can just sit an watch from your seat in NS. Our Democracy is at risk and will be for a while longer. What we in the US need to do is our part, which is ensure a good turnout in November 2024. It is beyond reason to me why it should be close, but I think the election will once again turn on a few thousand voters in a few key districts.
