Heck yea, finally made the switch from h2o2 to pool shock. Peroxide worked ok for smaller reservoirs but this is too large. It was smelly today 3 days later, the whole room stunk like it.
Sometimes I use googles search bar to find stuff on riu as if riu’s search bar isnt as strong or something. I looked everywhere on here and finally found a thread through google on here of what I needed.
The solution dont stink no more. Disolve a gram of shock in a gallon and 5ml per gallon into reservoir.
This stuff must be strong to have so many handling instructions. I think this might just do it! I had like a good 2-3 feeds left so if it last another 2-3 days then I am golden.
If it is that much stronger and longer lasting I wonder if the drain reservoir will hold up better as usually it gets funky faster since it is old discarded stuff.
Check your math, 5ml of 1g/G Pool Shock concentrate per gallon is not enough to be effective
Assuming 1 gallon to treat, using a 50% pool shock concentrate of 1g/Gal:
1 ounce of the concentrate would yield 1 ppm free Chlorine
5 ml of the concentrate would yield a mere 0.17 ppm free Chlorine
500mg CalHypo/128 oz = 3.9mg/oz
3.9mg/3.785L
≈ 1ppm
I.e. 1 ounce per gallon of concentrate
≈ 1 ppm free Chlorine
500mg / 3785ml = .132 mg/ml
.132mg/3.785L = .0348 ppm
.0348 * 5 = 0.17 ppm
I.e. 5ml per gallon of concentrate yields 0.17 ppm free Chlorine
