Photoperiod selection

So it’s been about 8 years since I last grew a photoperiod plant. Was Kali mist by serious seeds. Since then it’s all been autos and I’ve been happy with them.

Fancied another try at photos and see for myself the quality and how it compares to autos.

Got 6 germinating with the autos as they finish up. Found a rotating cake stand so they all
Get a fair share of the light in the centre of the tent lol

Should get space after Xmas to chop a couple of autos for transplanting the photos when they hit around 2 weeks old. Will then flip them sometime in the new year

Method:

4x4 tent
625w DE CMH
4 x 12L fabric
2 x 5L fabric
Peat based light potting mix
Liquid organic nutrients

Strains:

Strawberry Cough - Dutch passion
Laughing Buddha - Barneys Farm
Wedding cheesecake FF - fastbuds
Blueberry muffin - Humboldt Seed Company

Blueberry Blizzy (Rocbud)
Zkittlez (freebie)

Ya got some nice autos going and a really nice lineup of photos coming. I'ma tag along. I've been eyeballing that Dutch Strawberry Cough. I'd really like to grow it sometime.

Nae luck with the strawberry cough. 3 never even popped. Looking at reviews it seems I’m not the only one struggling with germination rates with this strain.

Doing the maths and it’s too late for me to pop another and flip them all evenly due to holiday season and the post being delayed.

So decided to do an XXL auto which will fit into the timeframe I have and I’ll chuck the blueberry Blizzy into a large container.

Room is 16c night and 21 day so slowish growth atm but will able to crank the heat up when these autos come down next week.

Cheers!

I was thinking about that strawberry cough, last year.
Went with the strawberry lemonade from barney's tho.
It's also a very nice strain.

Nice! I will try it again next run! I like to have a wide variety of terpenes/highs to choose from.

Day 10 and looking good. Cutting the last of the autos so this weekend so will able to get the temps a good 5c warmer both day and night. Then will transplant them not long after into their final containers.

They wanted their bigger homes soon! Should’ve taken a before transplant photo but a couple where really droopy and angry. Thought it may be watering schedule but after a dry back nothing sorted so transplanted them yesterday.

Got sent 16L pots instead of 12L so gonna be some big plants!

Nice roots for 13 days.

Soil has been soaked with 15% volume of water before adding the plants. This gives them enough time to root out the larger pots without the edges drying back too much (large pot small plant scenario)

After about 5 days I’ll water them with 750ml-1L and keep that up until they get fully established.

Ideally want to flip them 2 weeks from now but will see how they fair.

Cheers!

Day 21 - 1 week after transplanting.

Got a cold snap past week and the two at the back have been very slow to dry out. Two at the front near the tubular heater and intake have dried out much better but still yet to water them!

Ideally I want to water around 5 days after to get a growth spurt but will just have to wait.

Still growing fine tho albeit a bit droopy and should be able to water them soon and start training them.

Cheers!

Had first watering yesterday and also topped them all and started to train the branches.

Messed up the Buddha and took a top off so took it down another node. She’s gonna be leggy anyways as her internode spacing is large.

Buddha got a bit dry in the end with the heater near it and got some damaged leaf margins but just a blemish.

Should be fun training with no time limit!

Debating removing those fan leaves blocking the lower sites. With an auto I would keep them but photos simply grow more leaves right? Or is it best to keep them solar panels for now?

Training is going well getting some nice future tops in place. The zkittlez front right is being really stubborn to train. Short/stiff internodes that keep popping the stakes out the ground.

Im thinking I’ll have to stake the peg really far into the soil and then run a wire off it like I did with the Buddha.

Just seen the very first indication of sex on them so should be good to flip next weekend @ week 5

No feed yet. Just root stim and calmag.

Cheers!

Week 5 this Saturday and going to flip them Sunday to 11-13 to induce flowering.

No feed yet. Surprised at how long peat based potting mix and worm castings has lasted. Will introduce a little feed during the stretch I think.

A fairly even canopy I’ve got so can’t complain too much.

Super excited to see how they fill the tent!

Cheers!

How do you like 11 hour on for flower?
I’ve only grown a handful of photos before and they were on 12/12.

But what I did notice is that the stretch with 11/13 was a lot more gradual. They didn’t just shoot off at any point just steadily growing past 3 weeks.

Apparently you trade a little yield (cultivar dependant) for flower quality. Buds look good so far tho.

Day 28 of flower. Buds are coming along. Not as big as I would expect but I have a hard time trying to keep the night time temps up recently without an oil heater running.

Wedding cheesecake smells of straight up mint… kinda disappointed with it so far. I don’t like minty weed lol Early days so see how she goes.

Cheers!
