tom_420, I just did what you said not to. I added 8oz. hydrogen peroxide to my dwc/bubble/drip system with a new batch of nova nutes. My ph is a little low but I think that will raise after the peroxide breaks down, my concern is the damage to the nutes. Any answers besides the obvious of dump and start over?

I don't have any experience with those nutes dude, if they are organic than you should dump it out and mix up a batch without the peroxide

Interesting article.

Do you guys leave your water out for a week before changing it? I hear this is good when you're using tap water. Perhaps I can add the peroxide then and let it break up during that time.

TAP water is OK for hydro, not best, but OK. If you leave water sitting around a long time, the elctrolites leave and if LIGHT hits the water, you
are inviting pests, and algae.

He seems to promote it more as a preventative, or aid, instead of a cure.
Anf as I researched the subject I learned that peroxide IS definitely better as a prevetative, than a cure. Like it really slows down algae growth, but it is not 100% effective at removing or killing it all.
I would also add it is NOT to be mixed with organic nutes, that is destructive and like pissing in the wind.
Is the Foxfarm trio considered organic nutes?

What is reccomended for letting the chlorine evaporate from the water Roseman?

either let water sit for 24 hours or use a water conditioner. i use a kind for aquarium fish and is safe for consumption by humans so i know there arent any funky fick chems in there.

yes foxfarm is organic

By that logic CO2 is ok for humans, or grape juice is ok or plants.

Water Softeners/Conditioners are best kept away from plants. Water softeners work by essentially replacing calcium, magnessium, iron and manganese with salts. The prior four are all vital to plant health, the last we try to avoid build-up of and is the reson we flush our pots.

Reccomened time to allow chlorine to dissipate is ~24hrs, I wait 48 just to be safe ;). STAY AWAY FROM WATER SOFTENERS. If you insist on pure(r) water, get some distilled or RO water.

LOL...thanks man but i'm not a clean RO water kinda guy! I use tap water for everything, let it sit out one night to the next and adjust PH. Works fine for me.
Thanks guys!

I used tap when I was using soil. Works fine even with my hard water (350PPM using a 0.7CF). Switched to distilled for some bubblin' buckets as I have no idea what that 350PPM in my water is. Could be 90% calcium for all I know. Using distilled I know exactly what my babies are drinking. Plus that 350PPM takes a chunk out of the nutes I can add.

When my plant gets to the point it can be cloned, I'm gonna try a little experiment with one clone in tap water, the other using distilled.

a little side by side grow is always fun!
Did one awhile back with RW cubes and soil plugs for cloning. RW had major shock when transplanted into bags and the soil plugs showed no shock. It was fun to learn something that way.

Damn 350ppm outa the tap? Mines way under 100ppm out of the tap
I live in an area with LOTS of limestone and quarries mining it. Hard water has always been an issue. I tried using a brita filter and it did absolutely nothing, PPM came out the same.

On top of that our water company purposefully makes the water hard. Claiming that moderately hard water helps build a protective layer of calcium carbonate on the inside of pipes to protect people who might have lead plumbing in their homes. Softened water is more corrosive and has been linked to heart problems is behind their reasoning as well.

Do they own the company that installs water softeners?
Heh, no. Would be a good business plan though :p.

There is some truth to their reasoning though. The increased salt in softened water makes it more corrosive to plumbing, and drinking all that salt can lead to heart problems.
