Do you count flowering from 12/12 switch or when you see pistil hairs?

I was wondering how do you count the flowering days.

Do you count from 12/12 switch from 18/6

Or

Do you start counting flowering days when you first see pistils?

I always have started counting the flowering period from when I see the first pistils, however I recently have seen a few people counting flowering period from when they switch from 18/6 to 12/12.

see I figured if I switch from 18/6 to 12/12 then it takes a further 10 days for the plant to show sex and I counted them days as the flowering period, that means I could harvest 10 days early as I counted them 10 days as flowering perid, just when the plant will put its weight on in the last 2 weeks.

I hope that makes sense.

Can we get a freakin answer from top Seedbanks on this subject please. This topic is driving me nuts.........

Needs to be like making a vanilla cake for peats sake....time, duration, degree etc....on the FREAKIN mark......

i would say when you see the hairs.. just for the reason i have heard people having their ladies on 12/12 for a month + sometimes before showing..

Flowering starts when you change light cycles..Flowering can ONLY begin when you start 12/12, so it can't be once the pistil's show..So I think..Good luck finding a politically correct answer. I think it's all a matter of personal belief's, which varies in EVERY person.

No, I don't agree.

The "Lights" have been changed to flowering period ie 12/12, however the plant itself is in "processing period" of producing flowers ie bud and the plant is only truely in flowering period once the flower is showing I believe.

I think alot of people could miss the most important last spurt of the plant if counting 12/12 from switching and not when the plant has showed flower.

Just my 2 cents on it.

I was worried about this for a while, but shit it doesn't matter unless you're coordinating a perpetual grow or something right? Just look for the trichs to get all cloudy and suh.

If I was going just by what the seed companies say I would be picking these buds today. The light outside isn't perfect yet so It will prob be a while longer.

Old thread but I feel its an important question

in my opinion flowering count should start on the first sign of flowering... So it gives a true count to the days. When one switches to 12/12 the plant itself is still switching to flowering mode so the days in between the first sign if flowering should not count.

Once flowering signs have begun then the count should start. I'm almost positive that's what seed companies base the flowering!!!

flowering begins from the day you switch the lights to 12/12...case closed....who the fuck would count from when u see pistels???.... your already 2-3 weeks into flowering when you see pistels... so whats it called when you switch the lights to 12/12?....pre-flower stage??? LOL...when you take into account how long a plants flowering stage is you should include every aspect; the stretch, how long it takes to show signs, how long till harvest, everything... i had an LA CHEESE last grow that showed signs of sex the day after i went 12/12 but flowered as long as the blue venom and other strains...i guess its up to the grower when you consider flowering to start but if your having a conversation about flowering and you start talking about flowering the day you seen pistels ur gonna sound like a full on rookie...

Regardless of when you start counting the days you wont miss the "last spurt" if you go by the trics. So why does it really matter when you start counting? Counting days (imo) is just so the individual grower can keep track of their grow and everyone is going to do it different.

and you sound like a straight up douchebag.

do you consider the veg period from the moment you plant the seed? Because you're an idiot if you do. 1-2 weeks from seed is considered seedling stage. Flowering is the point when you begin to see flowers, hence flowering. When you switch the lights to 12/12 the plant doesn't instantly go, oh shit flowering time lets move bitches!

This question of flowering time came up for me three years ago when I was going to use Gravity which says to begin using three weeks before harvest. I didn't use Gravity on that grow but I did start a calendar to be able to back track. So after I harvested I went to my calendar and back tracked. So now I've laid that question to rest. When the breeder say's 9 to 10 weeks flowering, time begins when you see pistels...case closed... wmchopper.gif
