HPS throughout vegation - flowering

I always thought that you needed MH lighting for vegation growth. Now ive learned that you can use HPS bulbs through vegation and flowering is that correct? Ive got a room thats 2x6- do you think i should just go with a 600 watt HPS and it would do the whole room and still do an excellent job in vegation + flowering?

Please need the help, i plan on goin to the hydroponics store tomorow- Can i use a 600 wat HPS light throughout both vegation and flowering stage of the plants life? If i decide to use the HPS instead of the MH for vegation what will the downside or postive effect be?

How do you plan on cooling the light? That thing is going to put out a ridiculous amount of heat

I want to get the ballast so i can put a 600 watt MH and then a 600 hps. althought how much degrees will a HPS light bring up the room. 20 degrees would you say? ( 2x6)

Yeah at least dude, those things will get hot as hell. You are going to need to air cool it and keep it very far from the tops. I think that maybe a 400 watter might be better for your situation

Although one 400 watter wont cover 8 plants? UNLESS i buy 2 t-5's and put those on the sides.

Yeah but a 600 watter making the temps 90 degrees isn't going to grow 8 plants either....

Yes you have to bare with me, im tryin to learn thats why im asking so many questions. If the 400 doesnt have enough balls to grow the 8 plants should i just then switch to a 600 and attempt to keep the heat out. Will a 400 even flower 8 plants also?

go with the 600 dude! get your exhaust system in order and get some clean fresh air for intake and it can be done. I have 400 system and wish I would of went 600! it does throw some heat but with a cooltube and fresh air you wont be sorry!

Peace

During the day i can actually leave the doors open correct? I would only leav it open for 30 mins every few hours just to let i cool down. Also does a cooltube go around your bulbs or is that a brand name for bulbs?

Opening the door is not going to be enough man. Cool tube is a reflector that allows the best cooling. Do you not realize how much heat they are going to create? You are going to need an exhaust fan and probably an intake fan. I use 320 watts of HPS in a 4.5' tall, 3' wide, and 2' deep growbox. I need a 300+ CFM fan and my passive intake is connected to my air conditioner vent. If you wanna use a 600 watter you will need to air cool it with inline fans. There is no other way around it unless your house stays 40°F all the time which I highly doubt

1 600 watt light will not cover a 2x6 area. It will cover a 4x4 area but for it to cover the 2x6 area you will need a light rail to move the light back and forth. You can use hps for veg but the plants stretch and get leggy compared to the mh which keeps them full and more compact. I run 2 600 watt lights in each 4x8 tent with little heat issue and I run 1000 watt lights in my smaller 4x4 tents littl issue but if heat becomes a concern simple cool tube will solve this

opening my door does little help...my cab is set up as a negative pressure set up...fresh air in.....hot air out....it stays 10degrees hotter than ambient temps....so if i am 75 degrees inside the room i am almost 85! in the cab. now running air conditioning i can keep at 80 steady.......pending your set up though there are many options to do....cooltube being your best investment.....

I'm not capable of being able to set up inline fans that run air outside. Would it be a better choice to just run a 400 MH for vegation with 2 t-5's? and have fans circalting at the plant and then one pointin the air outwards? Then for flowering having a 400hps with those same t-5s? When im at the hydroponic store im gong to be looking for a MH that can use both hps and MH bulbs....whats the name of this. I want to be able to just switch the bulbs.

MH is a light bulb just like hps your refering to a ballast and want a digital ballast it runs both. 600 watt mh bulbs are very hard to find I knoiw like 1 place. If you need a digital ballast or complete kit reflector and bulb pm me I have good deals on both..

if you can get some T-5's i would go that route and then your 400 hps for flower...the T-5's work really well and little heat signature. describe your grow room for us and we can help you easier

What if i through that 600 watt directly in the middle with 2 t-5s point at the sides of the plants? And i do hear what oyur saying with the light rail because the rooms is more of a hallway looking room. Although wouldnt a light rail be a bitch to set up?

The room is 2 feet wide by 6 feet in length. Its just a closet but the room that this closet is in stay aroun 60 degrees at all time. I wanted to get 2 400 MH for vegging but that isway to much heat supposley from what people are saying on hear. So Im just trying to stick with one bigger bulb like a 600 for vegging then switching to the 600 hps flowering. Keep in mind if need i will buy t-5s to lay along the walls.

yeah two 400's would do nicely in that space BUT THE HEAT is extreme and will kill your crop...then wasted all that money......are you going to veg and flower in this closet? what kind of door? is it sliding door? accordion style?
