kp's cloning class, slips made simple....

yep, that's right; clones are easy. too easy. that's why most people have problems, it's not a fancy super advanced procedure, but rather a basic part of nature. in the wild, if a plant is broken and falls in a place where it can receive adequate moisture, it will usually root itself with no help from human hand.

start with a mom, any mom. i use bonsai, as i keep more than one. you want to select a branch that is semi stretched, with a good healthy top, and well placed lower node for rooting. (see picture of the bush)

clip the branch about a half inch under the low node, preferably at an angle. then, remove the leaf and chaff from the lower node, dip in rootone or other rooting agent, and place in medium; dirt, rw, hydroton, gravel... it matters not, so long as the medium stays moist at all times.

now, unless you live in a very dry or hot area, misting and humidity domes are UNNECESSARY. most clones fail from overwatering, be it through too much misting or too much humidity. i don't use a dome unless i'm dealing with a very fussy strain, and i don't mist, ever.

yes and no; i find that to be unnecessary too, and i clip the tips of leaves to mark a separate strain among a batch of many clones

it IS supposed to help stop transpiration, but my clones root regardless

no, it's not; just cut the stem at an angle. also, you can cut a branch, then recut, then recut again.... it makes no difference

i dont' mist at all the only time i did is one of the only times i had failures. i normally get 100% strikes from my slips.

it's alive, but barely; give it more water (soil should not be allowed to dry out) and back your lights up a bit. clones need very little light when establishing a new root system.

also, make sure that your cut nodes are below soil, and are completely covered with cloning solution.

for best results, feed moms with a flower fert, or root stim solution; a nute formula with higher p than n and k is best. avoid high nitrogen fertilizers as nitrogen can inhibit new root growth.

Then into a cube which is sitting in its original tray.

Then i mist twice a day, dunk once every 3 days.

why not? it shows cloning in it's simplest form, and will result in 90% strike rate or above. ph'ing rw and cutting underwater, yeah great.... but unnecessary. it helps, sure, just like nipping the tips, but it's not something that is REQUIRED for the slip to root. imo, a good tutorial is one a monkey can understand

You might also note that my trays are sitting on a bed of perlite, this also helps to keep the atmosphere humid. I've never harmed a clone when the roots travel into the perlite. Sometimes they'll snake all the way through, big long things. I never feed them nutes either, just plain old water.

I don't do the slice under water any more, I just keep a slight pressure on the stem while I make the slices. straight after taking the cuttings though I throw them into a bucket of 6.0 water. I can leave them there for hours. The last batch i did I left in the bucket for around 18 hours before starting.

i've kept cuttings in a sealed jar of water for six days and still rooted almost all of them
