thanks for the info im lookin at one called a ufo witch is stated to have the = lumins as 400w hps witch im currintly using it will cost $990 nz dollars.
so im now undicided what to do???
I was just reading an article that about LED growing and how Lumens aren't even relevant for LEDs. Lumens are a calculation of light that our can see. What you should be concerned with LED's is the wavelengths of light that it provides your plants. That's actually equally as important as lumens. I was reading future LED's won't have a high lumen counts at all. Rather they'll concentrate on specific wave lengths of light to maximize your grow. HID's while the best of the best (for now) waste a lot of energy on wavelengths of light that plants really don't need. So eventually watt for watt LED's will trump HID's when that will happen who knows? For now HID's are king! There is a lot to be learnt still about growing with led lights. The problem is that your plants need a mixture of red and blue spectrum's in the light for maximum yield but with the LED lights on the market now days they just don't seem to put out the same lumens as your HID HPS or metal halide do. I would truthfully suggest buying enhanced spectrum HPS bulbs like the ones from phillips or Hortilux. They are more expensive but I have quite a bit of experience with them and trust me it is worth the extra buck.
