I had my 400w hps like 10 inches away from the tops. I dont think it matters as long as you can keep them cool and dont burn them400 watt HPS....been on a 18-6 veg cycle.
They are 18-24 inches from the plants (something I read on THIS site).....
I have been using a 24-8-16 fertilizer once a week on them
Trust me, they don't look as bad as those photos are showing.
Make sure the fan is blowing on them and you have good air circulationHow do you keep them cool while being closer to the tops?
So you agree him saying to start over is a bit drastic?Make sure the fan is blowing on them and you have good air circulation

And does it matter if I re-pot them and bury the long stems all the way up to the first set of leaves?
i have done it several times with stretched seedlings and it works very well you sometimes get extra growth coming from the buried stem(more nodes).I was told by an agronomist that burying the stems up to the first set of leaves might not be a good idea. Anyone else had experience doing this? And what effect (good or bad) did it have on your plants?
