Usually after the 5th-6th true node is about right. You cut off above the first or second pair of nodes to give either two or four main colas.

The whole point of topping is to make the plant branch out, so you need 5 - 7 sets of branches (nodes) to make it worth while. I'd wait until the plant has at least 7 nodes

If you want bushy go with FIM. I fim at 4-6 inches high. them maybe again 2 weeks later.

Another way to get multiple tops is LST. And you dont have to cut a top off. There are advantages to all these techniques. Experiment and see what works best for you.

But according to Uncle Henry 4 is the maximum # of colas you can have and still be "main" colas. It has to do with the hormones present in the "main" growing tips. If you try to get more than 4 tops not all of them will contain the same hormones as a "main" growing tip. The plant i posted above had 12-14 tops, but none of them got big and juicy like a "main" cola does. So 8 is not nesssessarily better than 4.

Just read uncle bens 4 top method. I am going to try it with 2 violater kush clones, 2 Northern lights and 2 Diesel. They are from mommies in flower. Still a little small yet, But I have never tryed this and if I can achieve or 7oz per plant, well then it's my new way.

you can top on the secound true node. so after the lil rounded leaves and the single bladed u can top the next node wich is usually the 3 fingerd leaved node. you just have to have a little leaf to store energy so the plant can grow back wit new growth. this is very early to top but can be done ive done it. it may take a week or so for new growth to come but it will come
