Am I being investigated?

Probably what someone before me said, they were looking for a suspect on a bike and just wanted to gauge your reaction to being stopped.

It's always a good idea to cooperate with police. Telling them you aren't going to answer their questions just gives them a reason to detain you for even more questioning, and copping an attitude with an officer is likely to land you in handcuffs.

My motto is: Act like you're not doing anything wrong, and nobody will think you're doing anything wrong =)

I can't count the number of times I've walked down the street in my hometown puffing on a joint and had numerous police officers drive by me, smiling and waving at me, not even suspecting anything because I was looking so casual just strolling along. But then, that's me, your mileage may vary. I seem to have one of those faces that makes people want to say "hello" and tip their hats to me, tell me all their problems, lol.

I believe there have been burglaries (or other serious crime) in that area (on bikes), and they know who you are, because they've been watching all the bike riders in that area. You are just one of the suspects in these burglaries, and they wanted to get your reaction.

I think you handled it well, and as long as you have no priors, they'll go sniffing around somewhere esle now.

Think about it; they aren't going to pull you aside, make up some BS about burglaries, and question your past, if they suspect you are growing some weed in your closet.
i agree with green cross why would they tip their hand? just hope they cleared you as a burglary suspect & move on cops seem to find alot of stuff bu accident though you always have to look at warrants carefull i guess thats why lawyers get paid so well i wouldnt ride the bike around if its drawing that kind of attention though thats only my opinion & this is a free country

In my state you don't have to show the police your ID if your not doing anything wrong. I would have asked if they were detaining you...if not, walk away.

Do you dress like a hippy or wear clothes that show you believe in counter culture or do you dress hip hop?Cops always mess with those types.

here in florida a cop will pull ya over for no reason and ask your name and stuff just basic info. most likely he seen you riding your bike on several occasions since you moved there and he just wants to know who you are. in florida they cant legally ask you where your going or where your comming from they can only ask questions about why they stopped you. another thing i noticed is it could have been some sort of sting. in ocala fl i seen 2 plain clothes cops go down a strip of street going to all the motels trying to buy crack. so maybe it was something like that and just bumped into you. know your rights!!!!!!

Don't tell them shit. Don't talk to cops, ever.
You are correct. Never ever talk to the police. They are not your friend. Anything you say to a police officer can be used against you in a court of law, period.

Be polite, but, never talk, because when you do you give up your 5th ammendment right. When they ask you a question, respond with a question.
Continue by asking if you are free to go.

Act like a prisoner of war and give name, rank, and serial number. That's it.

Been there. Don't like it, but had to deal with it. I was also under the impression I was being followed for a long time. Wasn't even "on cycle" at the time, if I recall correctly.

But I was riding my bike and when I left my house, spotted the helicopter. Began riding my bike to work, as I did every day around that time, and got stopped by Cops. The searched me, asked a few questions, said they had a suspect of a robber who was riding a bike. I gave no attitude, but clearly gave off all gestures I was disturbed for being bothered while doing nothing wrong. They searched me, asked questions. I'm a clean upstanding citizen doing my thing so they let me go.

I do not give attitude to Cops. I cooperate in the least amount possible to still be good enough to get them to see a lost cause for even trying to fuck with me. I say nothing about nothing.
