All The Name Calling

i spoke with rollitup about all the name calling that has been taking place here lately. the debating is fine, it's what this forum is for. the cursing is tolerated but the recent rash of back and forth name calling has really muddied things up here. it is getting in the way of some good information and opinions. even if i don't agree with you i am interested in what you have to say. when you say it with insults it defeats the whole meaning.

it was suggested that we simply close this section. i said "no". like stated above, there is some really good stuff here. if we could just try to remember that we all come here to "get away". this is one of the only places we can be open with what we do and feel. lets not get this forum closed. please.

i understand "times are hard" and people are fed up. but this isn't a townhall meeting. we have rules and will start enforcing them. we are taking mod applications and are loooking for some people who might want to get involved in some writing. rollitup would once again like to try to start some type of newsletter. i see a lot of intelligent peope here. not a whole lot of text slang being throw around in this froum. so the appearance of literacy has led me to this forum to see what you all think. we would offer free elite membership to anyone working on a projection. we have a new sever now and have some room to play around. anyone want to get involved?

i would like this to be a thread for positive discussion on how we can continue to make RIU a happy place. thanks. :-P :weed:

I agree. Name calling and personal attacks, like profanity, are the effort of a feeble mind trying to express itself forcefully. I would fear that if this section would close, all this would just spill over into other sections and make more work for moderators.

Sometimes people disagree and get frustrated. When the name calling starts I try not to take it personal, everybody is entitled to an opinion. Usually when we resort to name calling it means we've run out of logical arguments or there are old feuds that get rekindled. I enjoy commiserating with those who seem to agree with my point of view and I've enjoyed debating or asking questions of those who don't. I've also been amused by some people's wit or lack thereof. I've also learned a few things about how people think, some of it is consistent and some of it is inconsistent.

I don't think shutting this section down is a good idea, but it's not my call. So if it happens, it's been nice talking, discussing, debating, arguing and fighting with people here even those who don't agree with me.

i agree with ya. i see cursing in the forums which dont offend me at all or anyone else i know here. considering we are all here to learn how to properly grow a stash. but even when i see someone attacking someone for writing something "stupid" they dont use the cursing, as far as ive seen. cursing should be allowed considering everyone here is supposed to be 18 + what i was thinking was having a debate forum. debate for politics or techniques. ya know anything that falls under a debate should be catagorized in that forum. like last week i started a thread stating do you beleive in ghosts. that should have been in a debate forum cuz everyone had an opinion and debated whether ghosts were real or not . but its just me and its just an idea

I agree and would apreciate it if anyone who posts in this forum would have the respect and maturity to realize that this resource can be taken away. We need to act like adults and treat eachother like adults. It seems that many members and visitors fit the sterotype we are trying to change. It does no good for our collective cause, if we act like idiots and divide the ranks. We are a 'family' of sorts in a global issue and petty arguments, immaturity, name calling, and childish behavior will certainly ensure we are not taken seriously.
Instead of berating eachother, let's educate and support eachother.

"if you have nothing nice to say... don't say anything at all" if a rabbit can follow this mantra... we should be able to make a worthy effort

I'm glad this is being addressed. I mean, I can take my fair share of abuse, but it's getting down right juvenile around here.

I'm someone who has a great deal of knowledge to offer the novice and experienced grower alike. Someone who not only has the conventional knowledge, but also years of experience and a lot of those "little tricks" that people are always looking for. Someone with pragmatic solutions and the heart of a teacher. Someone who has discovered that the philosophy of "Less is More" in the field of botany and horticulture is the key to the ultimate end result.

But to be honest, I got "fuck you'd" so much about any disagreement at all, I just stopped helping people.

They say that civility is the lubricant of society. And I say that it's a gauge of parenting skills.

Some people just don't realize the importance of respect towards other people and how a lack of it will handicap them for the rest of their lives.
No one will want to hang out with them.
No one will want to have a relationship with them.
No one will want to work with them.
Some (like myself) will not hire them or continue to employ them.
I have been plant manager for 2 different companies over the last 20 years and the #1 reason for letting people go was: not showing up for work or repeatedly being late. #2 was a lack of respect for their fellow workers and causing drama. A good employee has a harder time keeping their eye on the ball when they are pissed off by someone they are working closely with. And I have better things to do than being a refferee. I have escorted many a person to the door who was very good at their job but, their lack of respect for other workers negated any value they may have had to the company. On one occasion the whole shop stopped and cheered as I escorted one out. He was the plant FOREMAN, he was councilled several times but, treated people badly when he was in a bad mood. He lost a $50,000 a year job for being an ASS.
That's what it will get you.

Aren't personal attacks already against RIU policy, so maybe this post would've been better directed at a moderator. I haven't notices any name calling myself, unless it's cleverly directed as a question i.e. Do you have shit for brains, boy?

When ppl call me names and the insults start to fly..... I know I'm hitting home runs. Almost all personal attacks on the POL threads are to detract from a previous post which just nailed their position into an ideological coffin :wink:

man my whole existance hinges upon my ability to prove others wrong. it gives me such a metaphorical boner to know i am never wrong and superior to most. i loves me some me.
