ok check this out, i'm going to send you a link to show you what a ballast kit looks like, just in case you don't know. now what i'll do this weekend is take my ballast apart and show you how it's put together; the housing, the wiring, etc. but i won't be able to post it until monday. the hard part is wiring the ballast, but it really isn't that hard so the rest is a piece of cake.the link i'm sending is one that has a four tap ballast. meaning is can be wired for a 120, 208, 240, or a 277volt outlet. that's the kind i have so i may make it easier to know what you are looking at, and assuming you are using 120v outlets. also if you wanted to go to a local electrical supply store in your area, now you know what you are looking for. and like i said before if you can't wait those guys probably won't have a problem helping you. don't forget to ask about the housing for the ballist kit. and dont forget to pay in cash.

What's good all?

Well, it was a pain in the ass but I got the tent up.

But it's pretty pathetic looking and needs some work.

As I don't have the cash to get one of those expensive high velocity fans at the moment, I had to improvise and use a regular old circular fan for my exhaust (shown in the pic below).

I simply cut a circular hole in the top of the tent that was sized to fit the fan, removed the base to the fan, and now I'm just resting the fan on the outside of the upper part of the tent.

I have no idea how many cfms this thing is pulling, but you can see clear suction on the walls of the tent so I'm guessing it's doing the job well.

The temp shot up as expected. It's running between 83f to 84f. That's with just the 150w hps with no cool tube. That's pretty hot considering. Part of the problem is that I'm not pulling cool enough air in there. It's hot everywhere here right now. Hot and humid. So with no place to get cool air, I'm gonna be stuck at this temp for a bit.

Again, in about a month, there will be plenty of cool air to pull into the tent so this will cease to be a problem. But with a 400w HPS in there, that temp is only going to be going up.

Humidity continues to be on the high side of the growing range. It's pretty much constant at about 54%. I would much prefer it to be 40%, but I'm not getting that kinda luck right now.

The plant is looking healthy and hasn't seemed to mind all of the comotion going on around her. I'm looking to get that screen up really soon but I can't find the damn PVC cutter to adjust the height of it.

I'll get pics up in the next couple of days. I'm too wiped to do it now.

those fans are pretty good. i have one just like it . my humidity has ranged between 29 and 85 this grow.

Holy shit! 29% to 85%! How the hell does that happen man? You must have some pretty interesting climates where you're at. I don't even know how you try managing that grow condition.

Is it swingin that much each day or has this been a gradual major shift in humidity?

Today's update is a good one.

Coming home from a brutal day at work, the humidity in the grow space was 37%. 37%!

Last night, I had done some basic maintenance on the dehumidifier and set it to 35 to try and drag that humidity down.

Apparently it worked.

Temp was at 82f as well. I was able to add the screen but it was a pain in the ass getting it into that tent. My screen is just too big. I'm probably gonna have to put in some work to decrease it's size at this point but I'll need to save that for the weekend.

I fed her for just the 2nd time today. I put the ppm at 550. Low given her age but I don't want stress her just yet.

Didn't even have to adjust pH this time.

During the whole "moving the screen in there" process, the plant took a few looks. So I'll have to look for signs of physical damage from this vs. nute damage. I aint expectin any real nute damage at this level so no worries. Afterall, she's a little over a month old already.

They grow up so quick...or slow in my case.

I'll post some pics tomorrow of everything.

Pic2) This is the left side of the tent. If you look towards the bottom you can see a square hole in the tent that I cut in there to use as a passive intake.

Pic3) This is the fan that I am using an exhaust for the time being. The thing pulls air well that's for sure but probably won't do come time to start up the 400w. Still planning around that.

Pic5) Here is the guest of honor. My month old blue venom. She's a bushy one.

Looks healthy and there is absolutely no sign of any stretching. She hasn't grown into the screen yet but I do need to lower that sucker anyway.

As you can see, I made a GIANT screen. I think I went a little overboard on the screen. It basically takes up the whole damn tent!!

damn man, that's nice. seriously. i dont know if i mentioned it before but i have been wanting to put together a mother cab/closet and that is probably how i will do it now. how much, and what size poly did you use, where'd you get that big 'ol zipper from. all round very nice DIY. i like the way your plant is looking, its cool how they look like an afro growing out of control. man the more you talk the more i wonder if i should try a SRoG. because, and correct me if i'm wrong, i can get more yield with fewer plants. right? but anyway, freaking good job!
also, man i almost forgot. my BV is in about its 7th week(this Sat.)and the trichs are really showing temselves. so i got a little curious, and cut off two little buds, cut them up, and put them in the vaporizer. i should have let i dry for about a day, but i didn't want to. but man let me tell you something, it was nice ok. i got real nice off of that, and it still has another week to go maybe, and another two weeks of drying and curing. so it is probably going to be some really good smoke. possibly the best i've had in a long time iwont give a report on it this time , i'll wait till my plants i just put out get done cause they will probably finish at the same time yours will be done and we can compare at the same time. i'm not sure yet but i might try the sativa NL tonight. because it is looking awesome. very, very high flower to leaf ratio, and good crystallization makes me think it might get chosen over it's indica NL counterpart. but i got off track, if you were to suggest a way for me to do a SCRoG what would you reccomend from the pic below. thats nine pots three by three. whatcha think? or are they too tall. if they are, what is a good height to start at? btw they are all ranging between 22"-25".

i don't even bother trying to manage the humidity other than ensuring i have good ventilation.

those were the max and min readings on my gauge. i don't think i it does swing that much in a day but i haven't checked.

What up, Butters? dude i just had to hit you up to let you know that i think the Blue Venom is just about done.This is what i'm seeing, and you can tell me what you think; about 90% of my pistils have turned, the small leaves around the buds are starting to get kinda hard and crispy feeling(no nute burn),SEVERAL of the larger fan leaves are yellowing(Nitrogen being used up)pretty much all of the trichs are cloudy and i saw a few specs of amber heads hanging around. and the trichs have the hairs looking kind of matted down, so i think i'm bout done. but what i'm going to do is cut 3 or 4 branches this weekend to see how it is at seven weeks. and the same on the 8th and maybe the 9th weeks, just for future reference. also same thing withthe NL sativa, the indica looks like it has a little bit more to go. but i tried the NL sativa and it was freaking good. ALL UP IN THE HEAD, btw the BV had me dozing off real strong. and that is not even dried and cured, you could tell it wasn't done cause it had that green taste to it, but i was still high as hell. so you can understand that i am soo amped to get these done. but i might order 1 or 2 afgan kush seeds and just have my way with them. but i'll probably do a quick dry, down here that's where you cut 'em, and hang 'em up on friday night and by saturday night they are literally dry enough to go in the vaporizer. that's how hot it is down here. yesterday it was 103 during the day, and about 91 last night outside. anywho, hey man be careful, talk to you monday. Hey All

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

Took some pics of her yesterday as she's finally crossed the canopy horizon.

I've already been moving some of the sites from square to square to get her to start going horizontal. I'll need to lollipop her a bit as their are some really weak looking branches on the bottom that just seem like a waste of energy.

As you can see, humidity problems are solved now. I've been keeping her around 40% pretty much but I can even get her lower now (if need be). That's a far cry from the 70% I was getting with a bunch of those Damprid buckets and a 50L dehumidifier. Now, I just have one Damprid bucket inside the tent by the passive intake and have the dehumidifier outside the tent set at like 40%. It doesn't even have to run all of the time now.

Temps are still higher than I would like but they are not unacceptable. They run from 79f to 83f. Again, not terrible, but sure would be nice to be able to lock in at 76f. And again, this will get more interesting when I introduce the 400w HPS in the tent.

Speaking of which, I need to start my plan for venting the cool tube. Venting directly into the room that the grow tent is in won't do me much good (especially since I'm already running around 82f with the 150wHPS.

I have the 4" ducting already. But I need a fan that can pull it out of the cooltube. I also need something to connect the venting to the cooltube as I failed to purchase the flanges at HTG and now their site has been down for a little while.

I could always use those 4" inline fans that are like $30 at home depot but I've heard they don't pull enough air. Suppose I could always give it a trial and then return it if it's not enough. And of course, while I'm at HD I'll need to buy a 4" hole-saw for my wall and the stairs that I'll be venting it into to keep the place warm in the winter time.

That's all for now folks. I'll be upping the nutes and feeding her again tomorrow as she is not showing the slightest sign of stress from the Canna coco A+B. Another feeding & she'll be hitting that screen in no time.

oh man that is nice. be sure to center your pot, because the way the branches grow it is giong to eventually start to look like it has four corners they are going to grow out as such. man i wish i put a screen over my BV because the vertical growth, and appearence of new flower sites when the plant is in flower in crazy. and if i had put them under a screen each bud would have been able to grow to its full potential, but i ended up having to pinch alot of them off due to lack of light, but that has resulted in bigger tops(win win). but hey mine is almost done. a few people said that they let theirs go for 7wks and it was done. well iwas going to do the same but i noticed that when i checked them saturday night they had swolllen quite noticably from the night before,so with that and the fact that my trichs are still very cloudy i will let them go til this weekend. but the test bud i smoked sunday provided a definite indica effect. i wish when it was done i could and burn one with ya. but hey great job with the screen.

Yeah. I forgot to mention why I am keeping the plant off-center on the screen.

What I am doing is an attempt at a perpetual scrog grow. This means that I will need to use that screen for more than one plant. So, by keeping one side of it open, I leave room for the addition of another plant.

BUT...I can't veg the new plant in my flower tent. Therefore, it will have no access to this screen while in veg.

How will you handle this Butters you ask?....I have no fucking idea! (thought I'd build up the issue a bit before admitting I had no clue...). That's probably why I haven't seen any "perpetual scrog grows" on this site. Oops. Technicalities...don't ya just hate'm.

My current thinking is to LST the new plant to start to force the horizontal growth and then throw it in the flower chamber with the screen. But down the road, I want 2 seperate screens to be able to utilize, perhaps parabolic in shape when they are put together.

But bending PVC connectors at angles isn't exactly all too easy so I'm still figuring that stuff out.

As my current BV plant will grow about 2-3 times it's current size, I'll probably just need to wait another couple of weeks before putting her into 12/12. Won't need the 400w HPS even in early flower given that it's only 1 plant right now and not past the 1' x 1' range. And that'll give me more time to hold out for cooler temps too.

As for an update today, man...this BV is really moving now. A couple more bud sites came through the screen again and I'm moving stuff around. I can't imagine using chicken wire for the screen. It would just cut the hell outta the stems/leaves while moving them in and out of the holes in there. But I gotta say, it's easy to move'm around.

God I love lazy growing!

What a friggin day.

About a week and a half ago I started to notice some smell coming from the exhaust. It was a subtle weed-type smell. I knew that I had to get the filtering going at some point anyway...so why not now.

I spent the day making my ghetto ass DIY carbon filtration system. I'm totally wiped so I'll get pics up tomorrow.

Basically, carbon filters and the HV inline fans cost alot of money sad. I could essentially buy another HID for the cost of a filter and high velocity inline fan.

So I decided to go cheap and creative.

I picked up a tin can of coffee (diameter of 4") and cut the bottom outta it. Then I took some activated carbon (from walmart), placed it on these kitchen wipes I picked up (from walmart), and sewed a couple of them together so that it forms a flat pouch filled with activated carbon.

Then I put the pouch (it only took one) into the empty coffee can and used small screen wire on both ends to keep it shut. After that, I attached 4" flexible ducting to one end of the coffee-carbon-filter (leaving one side open). The other end of the flexible ducting was then attached to a fucking plastic easter basket....

....yes, I had to use a plastic easter basket to make this happen........sorry Jesus....or Easter Bunny....or whatever the hell that holiday is about these days.

The plastic easter basket essentially serves as a "connector" to the fan that I have as an exhaust. That fan is about 7" in diameter. The easter basket is more like 10"-12" in diameter. Then.....I had to cut a 4" circular hole in the bottom of the easter basket in order to connect the 4" ducting to the basket which is in turn duct taped to the top of the grow tent, covering the area immediately below the fan, so as to create suction through the filter (i.e. coffee can with carbon) to make a carbon-filtered exhaust.

They don't have a smiley for sheer exhaustion, but if they did, I would put about 40 of those in a row right about here.

The tent is not showing as much suction on the walls. Obviously the resistance is impeding the fans ability to pull the air like it was before. That's to be expected of course.

Now, I just need to see if it'll keep at that low 80's temp. Should it go over 85, it just ain't gonna work. This is just with the 150watter. Can't wait to battle with the 400watter.

The poor plant took a beating today as well. It's VERY difficult to manuever around that screen and the light while doing all of this. She still looks real happy though. But I had to re-arrange the bud sites through holes in the screen again.

I'll go on another rant about how I REALLY shoulda kept the screen closer to the bucket so as to get more bud sites through the screen...but that'll make more sense tomorrow when I put the pics up.

For now, I need to rest, smoke, eat, and enjoy the journals of all you kick-ass growers out there.
