I'm about to by my first actual bong, so I was wondering the benefits and problems with all the different materials they are made from. Thanks in advance!

I'd say glass for your first, any other materials besides acrylic are really just "fun" bongs, bongs that you have in addition to some solid pieces

I'd say go with a thick piece, something that is sturdy and not a piece of shit.

That was a cool link, but it didn't help with the material of the bang haha. So, i'm mainly choosing between Acrylic and Glass. Differences advantages disadvantages etc??

It all depends on what you want out of it really. My personal opinion is that glass is the best, and some glass is DEFINATLEY better than others. I love the glass that comes from illadelph (www.illadelphglass.com) You can find them at some of the higher end head shops. However personally I love hand blown local glass, they are beautiful and unique

Acrylic is durable but def. don't hit as well and the process to make them isn't too great for the environment...

my buddy broke his acrylic bong by putting 90% isopropyl alcohol in it to clean it. i would go for glass.

I broke my glass one and lost my acryllic (think someone stole it, but I smoked so much pot that night a large part of my memory is a blank lol)

fortunately im out of weed till I grow my next batch.

though im looking out for a good bong, vapourizers are peaking my intrest.

sorry, I haven't read that link for a while.

natural materials (bamboo, wood, etc.) often impart a funny flavor to the smoke, and eventually degrade and can harbor mold or other harmful things.

I support getting a true glass on glass bong or glass on glass bubbler over any other type of piece short of a volcano.

acrylic is basically plastic... some people say it imparts a nasty flavor to your smoke, but i dont think this is true. ive smoked some dank out of an acrylic bong and it tasted fine

remember you can break acrylic too.

ya, i know. I'm just wanting something cheap ($50 at the most),but effective, that I can carry around easily. I don't really like those large bongs.

if you want somethin cheap that you can carry just get a glass bowl. your local 7-11 doesnt carry them?.. mine does for 10-15 you can get a nice bowl.

if u want a sturdy piece for a dirt cheap price you can go acrylic
glass is expensive and if clumsy well....you shouldnt have one
wood metal and ceramic are a solid color you wont know when to clean or "clear"
