hey all, just started a few babies and am having problems. i germinate the seeds then put them in the soil/ growing mix all goes fine for a little while and then they slowly start gettin a lighter green in colour and there only on the first set of real leaves? im stumped as to why this could be happening. ikm lettin the first couple inches of soil dry befor i water and am growing under a 400w son t agro. temp is between 70-80 degrees F.
one of them has gotten yellow rusted tips.
any ideas? i can post pics if needed/.

is that seedling mix or potting mix..? if its potting mix,,then theres your problem......try using a seedling mix or better still you can start them in jiffy pots made of peat or coco

when you say 70-80, is this a guess... trust me, unless you have a digi thermometer with a probe or the thermometer itself at the tip of the plant, you dont know the temp actual temp that the plant is exposed to. btw, how close is your light

its also could be a ph issue. also you dont need any nutes for 2-3 weeks with decent soil. i would go ahead and scoop out all those i see in those pics and replace with fresh soil

hey guys thanks for the responses the pot wiht the white shit /perlite in em is a grow mix i bought from the hydro shop and the rest is just standard potting mix. i have a digi thermometer in there so the temps ok. i let the soil dry before watering. next time ill use a seedling soil but i hope these battle through.
cheers

do not add any nutes to the plant when they are that small.. seems like your over watering if its takin that long to grow... usually, once they sprout, in two weeks they should be 4-5 inches atleast

some plants take a bit longer to really kick into gear growing and that combined with the nutes in the soil and/or overwatering problem its growth isnt so bad. once it gets over this little bump in the road they should take off and explode in new growth and will start making up for lost time.

im using a 400w son t agro, is there a better lamp for starting off? would a 1000watter help or not at this stage? maybe MH or flouros? also how many plants can i grow under the 400 son t and to what size, and what sort of yield? ide like 4 but if the light isnt enough for 4 i can get get another. let me know what youse think
thanks!

400w is A LOT for younglings.. even a 23 watt cfl provides all the light you need for one plant for 2 weeks or say around 8 inches
