my home made light hood

This is my new homemade light hood on the cheap. Scrap lumber. I got the sockets from a light bar I found in a thrift store and more for 35 cents each at a army surplus store. Main expense was the lights, ten bucks for four 23 watt daylight buldbs, 6500k, 1600 lumens each, 20 bulbs. About 7 sq. feet. Got awfully sick of stripping wire. Was dazzled looking at it. Couldnt see anything for a couple minutes after looking at it.

Would have saved a lot of trouble if you used 40 watt ones instead of 23, though the price was good.

I should get good veg with this. When I am ready t flower wally world has 23 watt 2700k bullbs for like 4 bucks for four. will be good to go.
BTW, what do you all use to test humidity.
Thanks,

I use a Wally World $7.00 special. Gives current temps and humidity and the high and lows for each in the last 24 hr period.

I tested the lights last night and it got too hot. There is no way that I can vent out of the closet and I was hoping that the circulation fan would circulate the air enough to keep it within limits. The closet does have a high ceiling. I drilled a bunch of holes and it seems to be keeping steady at 87 degrees.
Thanks

i would put a hole above each ballast area not by the actural light bulb but right above each ballast that where 95% if not all of the heat is made and then cover the back with the shiney side of al, foil glue it so as to keep it smooth ont let the foil rinkle- so just a recap
glue on foil
shiney side faceing plants
then drill at least 1 or 2 holes directly above each ballast
place a ocilating fan pointed up at lights (optional)
keep light with in 2- 4 in of plant tops

Right now we are having record high temps here for this time of year. It will definately get much colder. Above closet is the attic, along one will is the hall, the other side is a plumbing space between the closet and outside. I will not heat the room where the closet is located. I can keep the closet door cracked for quite a while yet before odor will get to be a problem. Also the lights will be much higher above the floor by the time it becomes necessary to close the door. The space is especially hot now because the lights are only about 12 inches over the floor. Lots of heat and light in a small space. I am thinking that once it becomes necessary to close the closet door the heat will not be a problem but I will have to put a dehumidifier in. I can swing the door once or twice at night and then blow the sweet air outside to keep the air fresh in the grow area.
Most of my seeds have germinated and I have placed them in the pots. Should be poking their heads up by tomorrow.
