step by step how to FIM

i did a step by step how to super crop a few days ago.. one thing led to another and i was talking about FIM'ing.. some asked for some clarification as to what it is.. so here is my step to step how to FIM..

first lets talk about FIM'ing.. it stands for "fuck i missed".. rumor is that someone was going to top their plant, messed up, let it go, saw what happened, and FIM'ing was born..

FIM'ing is similar to topping in that you are creating multiple tops by removing some foliage/plant material...

with topping you cut through the stem removing a couple of nodes.. this almost always creates two tops..

with FIM'ing you remove part of the new growth bud.. not a flower bud.. its a spot at the end of each branch where new growth emerges.. it will make sense shortly...

now.. removing this new growth bud, if done correctly, will cause at least 2 tops like topping will.. but you remove much less plant material.. this means less stress to the plant.. which is always a good thing...

notice tho how i said it will cause at least 2 tops.. with FIM'ing it is very possible to get more than 2 tops.. i personally had 1 plant get 4 or 5 tops on my last grow...

you can FIM throughout veg to cause more tops to branch out if you want.. i personally just super crop throughout veg and FIM all the tops i create that way somewhere between a week before to a week into flowering...

you can FIM 1 of two ways.. 1 way you use a cutting instrument.. either scissors, a razor blade, or even finer nail clippers... the second way is to pinch the tops off.. i like this way more.. i think the unevenness of the cut gives it a better chance of having more than 2 tops...

so i will show you the technique.. at least my version.. obviously since i dont have any flowering girls right now i cant show you the results.. but i will link my youtube video from my last grow here.. watch it and somewhere in it it will show the girl i was talking about with the multiple tops...

here we go!!

1) find the plant you want to FIM..

2) find the top you want to FIM.. you can do 1 top of every top.. its up to you and how strong your plant is.. it causes less stress than topping.. but still causes some amount of stress.. dont over do it if your not confident in your plants genetics..

3) look for the new growth bud.. it will be in here...

4) here is what your looking for... you may have to pull back a few longer leaves that are emerging out.. but you'll eventually find a little tiny nub of new growth..

5) grab about 80% of the growth with your finger tips or finger nails...

6) and pinch it off...

7) this is somewhat how it should look afterwards... this has some sativa influence so the growth site was easier to get to... heavily indica dominant plants will be a little harder since the node spacing and over all growth will be much tighter...

you can see in the second picture the larger leaves that were growing out the i had to pull back to get to the growth bud...

its easy.. the main thing is to take off enough of that growth bud... otherwise things wont happen...

glad to have helped tho.. thanks for the support...

i added a 4000w flower room, another ebb and gro system, another water chiller (all this in the flower room)...

plus i added a 4 extra plants in the veg room (the room you see in the video that i was flowering in)...

so now i have 16 large girls vegging under the floros and those 2 x 400w hps... they are 4 weeks as of yesterday...

i also have 28 autos going in my flower room.. i figured since i have to wait for the large girls to veg (to begin a perpetual style grow) i might as well make use of space....

here are a couple pics i took the other day..

the first is the veg room as it stands now with all the girls in it.. the second is the flower room with all the autos in it... but of course the pics are near as telling as a video

Thanks for all your info!
SO you do not neccessarily top at all?
Just keep bending to stunt its potential height?
Or still top initally around 3 nodes?

FIM replacing topping... if thats what you mean...

i guess im just a little confused on the question...

i super crop throughout veg.. thats the bending i assume you mean.. this also helps keep height down...

then sometime between 1 week before to 1 week after flowering you FIM... thats explained on the previous page...

I used funky language sorry,
To see if I understand correctly, you fim in combination with supergrowing up until early flowering; is this right?

I am a newbe, what can I say I'm ignorant still...

supercropping being done with the longest duration window( all through veg), and the FIMing only being done maybe for about two weeks total?

i FIM sometime with in a 2 week period...

basically its like this..

i veg my plants for about 8 weeks...

week 2 through 7 i super crop....

then, sometime between the last week of veg and first week of flower i FIM.. i FIM all the tops i can see.. but i only FIM 1 time the entire grow.... thats why i wait until right before or early into flowering.. so the FIM'd areas dont have a lot of time to grow out.. just to get them ready to flower...

does that help more??

wat up simpsonsampson?!? just stumbled across this as i was rehashing the supercropping thread. tried to give ya another rep, but of course it wouldn't let me till i 'spread some around' lol. anyway 'nother gr8 thread man. its dudes like u who really make this site invaluable to all us smokers/wannabe growers. thx man.
now, back to the thread.... i unintentionally did super cropping and fim'ing last year and didn't even know the name for it!!! lmao. its funny the theory u gave bout how/wat fim'ing stands for/got named for cause thats exactly wat happened to me as i was topping more than one of mine last year. and the super cropping, i accidentally broke one of my better plants when i put it in the ground and it grew that 'knuckle' just like u described. i may have a pic of it. if i find it i'll come back and post that.
quick question: y wait to fim? don't i want the 'new tops' to have time to grow so they'll have bigger buds? i'm just sumwat confused over y i would wait to fim and not try to do it thru out veg. so there'll be more full grown tops ready for bud. appreciate ur advice man. and those're some bad ass grow pics btw. maybe 1 of these days i'll get to that point (fingers and toes crossed!!!) : )
