I'm thinking about building a frame to hold my lights and trays. My trays are 2x4 and my lights are all 4' T5's. I was thinking about a 2x4 frame that would hold the trays up off the cold floor and allow me to adjust the lights by jackchain. I might even panda film one off to make a sexing/flower room. Any thoughts, remember I'm a cheap bastard...

The young ones look good!
It's probably a good idea to get them off the floor. Shouldn't take much, just a few inches to allow air under them.:leaf:

I agree with CPH. If they are off the floor the concrete wont leach heat from the seedlings. It will also be easier to work with them. I like your idea of the pre-flower room too. When you described you soil design were you talking about layering the material within the pots or mixing it up and putting it in the pot?

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Got my lumber and ready to get started.

What I did was put about an inch of the course perlite and then about 4" of the Roots Organic 707 super soil on top of that. Watered that in and will set the transplants on top of that and fill in around them with FFOF (which is what they are growing in)

Dang tornado almost got us. shit, my Dairy Queen is doing alot better than this one...

THat's the finest Coarse perlite I have ever seen. That's the size of the fluff from my #3 perlite. ANyway good Idea to layer them into the hotter soil and have a drainage at the bottom. Hope that fine stuff doesnt flow out the bottom.

yeah those big pots make it look small, huh. Took a few more pictures of the tornado damage. That's a lot of power.

lumber jammed inside a small oak

roofing shingles impaled into an oak.

hey volcom, crazy weather for sure. Yeah the blizzards are a better stoner storm. lol

gt, you were right about the perlite flowing out the bottoms.:cuss: I dumped it all out cleaned out the tray and mixed the perlite and 707 together and it's mucho better. Nice stuff all ready for transplanting prolly tomorrow.

High everyone? I got some transplanting done before I got into the Widow Cindy. :bigjoint:

They were starting to slow down some so I'm going from the 4" squares to the Magnum squares that hold a little over 1 gal capacity. With the perlite & Formula 707 in the bottom 4" I set the transplant on top and added about 3 16oz solo cups of Fox Forest Ocean Forest around.

I got the 3 Sleestack x Skunk

The 3 Barney's Farm Violator Kush.

I've still got the 5 Nirvana's Bubblelicious to transplant...

And the 5 Nirvana's Papaya to transplant... :bigjoint:

The babies are coming along. One of SOG's bubble n squeak still coming up. All of GT's are up. The 3 Chemo Cindy x Hijack, the 3 Jack's Surprise#3 x Hijack, and the 3 Jack's Surprise #2 x Hijack.

All of Subcool's 5 Dairy Queen and 5 Jack the Ripper are all about ready for transplanting too. The extra twin didn't make it...

So that's what's going on around here today. oh and gotta get my light frame together.

But what's buggin me is the papaya and a couple others are getting a rust look to some of the larger fan leaves. I'm thinking my tap water is too high on the pH (no I don't have a fuckin meter :wall: ) But was going to try some distilled water until I get one. No nutes yet I'm just letting the tap water sit for a couple days before using it in case of chlorine. Yeah I got to get a meter.:leaf:

Couple of suggestions for you slab. If you are going to get a pH meter you should also get a meter that measures EC, and TDS as well as pH. THe TDS and EC can give you an indication of the dissolved salts and dissolved ion content of your base water before and after you add nutes. While you mainly do gorilla and rely on stream water, the resulting nute mix could be followed from a nute schedule with EC and TDS. Usually once you add the nutes the pH goes down so the nute mix requires buffering to ~6.5 for soil or around 5.8 for hydro. Just my $0.02.

Also the main meters are Milwaukee and Hanna. Look in my 2009 journal and you will see my Hanna meter. I got a continous read meter but I wish I would of just got a hand held. I like the Milwaukees but they dont measure Temp, at least they didnt have one when I was ordering.

THe little ones look great. I learned from my last seed popping run that your plants will grow bigger and stronger if you dont let them get rootbound. I would transplant them into 1-gal pots as soon as the plant pops out of the seed and starts growing. When you see the roots in the bottom of the 1-gal pots its time to go in the ground or a bigger pot.

Since you have started yours very early in the season and will need to veg for awhile indoors make sure to uppot as soon as possible to maximize your growth for cloning.

THe CC is one of my favorites and Im hoping the cross with HJ will even improve on the bushiness and potency. THe JS series should do well in your area so we shall see what you can do with them. THe JSs are more indy dom so they will be a little shorter especially JS 3 x HJ. The JS 2 was the second tallest plant I grew in 2009 and had the least rot of all the JSs.

Not sure what the rust is on the leaves. DO you have pics?

thanks for the look see

some of the very bottom leaves are from the light scorching but look at those spots on the newer growth. And there's one that is kinda curling up. Most everything looks fine but these.

same plant diff angle

Thanks for the help. This is all new to me but I wanted to start early enough for a couple clone cuttings.
I thought about a combo meter but damn they're $$$. ha get over it ya cheap bastard. lol I like the Hanna too but I need portability. I'll look to see what they have.
I went ahead and transplanted everything including the DQ & JTR. Everything but the babies just yet.
Dude that WC red is some christmas tree stinky stank. nice!!! :weed:

Thanks c, I'm trying to decide on a meter. How about one like this one?
Hanna Waterproof Digital pH/EC/TDS Meter HI 98129

The hanna is good but I don't think you will need all that just for soil. I've got a Martini pH pen for about $75 is is auto-calibrating and was well worth it. If you spend less than $65 on a pH it will probably end up being more hassle than it is worth

You could also just pick up so pH test drops for like $8
