Here we are Purple Kush in a fridge with one 400 hps light.
I had originally been vegging her under 6 x 42 watt cfl's at my old house(look at how close the nodes are to each other) until I had to move earlier this week, I stressed out all of the plants very severely, I was in the middle of moving and I had no where to store the plants during the move so there light schedule was seriously messed. They were unplugged from the air pump for about 6 hours or so, the only one that doesn't look like it is going to die is my 4 month old purple kush plant (the big one that I am focusing my pictures and my grow on. I have tried to transplant the remainding plants into grodan mini cubes. Pretty Ghetto, but what do you do when you are in a pinch right..
If the other plants survive I will be greatful.
So far the temps are staying at exactly 79 inside the fridge..

Any way back to the fridge.
I have been thinking of doing one for a few years I just never had a need to because I have always had a cold room that I had used to grow in. So I looked around for a few days for a fridge in the newspaper and on craigslist you know. I was on a mission to find me a fridge so that I did not have to throw or give away my 4 month old babies seeing how I was moving into a two bedroom apartment. No luck finding a fridge for the first two days and then I remembered that my uncle had a one year old fridge that crapped out on him and he just wanted it thrown out. So I called him up, went and smoked some of my last crop with him.. I took the fridge,
I started by removing everything from the fridge the compressor, all of the copper tubing and that radiator off the back, the interior lights, removing the freezer fan cover, but leaving the fan. When i was all done doing this i started cutting an opening from the freezer to the fridge with the saws-all and then what I did to separate the two from the heat of the 400 watt HPS was I took one of the shelves that just happened to be glass, and I stripped off the rack bars and fit it into the bottom of the freezer I was not worried about totally sealing the glass because my next step was taking a really powerful fan that I bought at walmart last year, that I have been using for the past few grows I cut a hole into the bottom of the fridge and placed the fan into the void. I sealed the area around the fan on the inside of the fridge to ensure a solid seal from the bottom intake fan was formed.., for the exhaust fan I just used the old freezer fan that was still functional.
I took out the radiator behind the fan to give me more of an air trap. I turned the fan around so it was blowing air towards the back of the freezer and re secured it to the same placement it was originally, minus the reverse fan placement. I simply drilled two, 2" holes at the back where the fan was blowing the hot air into the air trap, so that it could exhaust.
So far everything is going great, temperatures are 79 constant !!

We shall see an update on how everything is going in the next few days. in the meantime check out my signature for my previous grows !!

Enjoy the pictures below of the Fridge !!

killer setup man, don't you think 400 watt hps light is overkill for a fridge? +rep for the setup anyway. what are you using for nutes?

It is really easy to control the temps with the way I have designed the fridge.
I am keeping the temp at 74-79 during the day. at night it only drops to 65-69.
So far everything is looking great. the plants have started to look alive again.
I will update every second day or so, unless someone responds to my thread in which case I usually respond within a couple of hours.
Thanks for looking at my grow.

fucking beautiful i think you just inspired some trash diggin A+++++ for you good sir when you were using the 2x150s how much heat did they put off

The 2 x 150 HPS did not put off alot of heat.
Compared to the single 400 watt HPS the 2 x 150 HPS are nothing.
I would imagine that using 2 x 150 HPS in the same set up as mine would give you good results also.

I'm interested because I have an old fridge hanging around. LOL I guess if you kept the fridge working you could have it on a temp controler that when and if it gets too hot the fridge turns on. hahaha. I'm subscribed!

Nice idea!!!

my ONLY worry fer you is cleanliness.

if that fan on the bottom is sucking in, and theres no filter os SUM sort. u might get sum clogged stomata's or just srt8 dirty buds and plants.

u got a filter on there??

other than that! :clap::clap::clap:

Hardroc; You would be able to have a couple of the current Grow-Frigerators going on in your house at one time.
I'm going to make a double fridge grow box in the next few weeks.
One side 1 x 400 watt HPS the other side 2 x 150 watt HPS,
This will give me a full size veg chamber and a full size flowering chamber.
I think that the top freezers result in way too small of a veg chamber for my needs.
I want full size plants 1 1/2 feet tall before I start to flower them.
I do care about yield so I am going to start to grow my plants big..
Let us see what this 1 x 400 Watt HPS actually does in the Grow-Frigerator.
I will put her into flower in approximately two weeks from today. depending on how she grows.

Yeah I have got an air filter underneath the fridge so it catches any air born particles before the air enters the fridge.

only problem with it I can see is it's not as stealthy as you think. It's one of the first places a cop would look and anybody who is thirsty looking for a beer is gonna find your shit. But otherwise I like it a lot good design. I bet you don't have any problems keeping your heat down :)

Pipe Dream, my philosophy is out of sight out of mind.. ya know. I don't really care about cops coming over to my house I would much prefer to have my shit in my fridge than in a closet or a bedroom.. once again "out of sight, out of mind" and to answer your question about the heat. you are right I have absolutely no problems with heat control.

This is a great looking grow setup, I love how you have seperated the light from the rest of the grow. I take it the glass devider doesnt effect the amount of light to get through? That must really help with keeping the heat level down too.

Good job looking forward to seeing your results

Thanks BU5T4, I dont think that the glass divider takes away too many lumens getting to the plants. but it does infact help to keep the heat off of the plants and contain it to the freezer indeed !!
Peace !!

https://www.rollitup.org/members/drewsb420-79994.html drewsb420,
I have fully removed all of the fridge functions and am solely using the fridge as a cabinet.
It cools with a high intensity intake fan from the bottom and it uses the stock fan that came with the fridge placed in reverse blowing the air through the back wall of the freezer to exhaust.
it is kinda like a cool-tube fridge.
I'm sure that I could have left the fridge components in the fridge if they were functional in order to cool the fridge,,
but i'm sure there would be more problems in the long run if you were to leave the fridge components functional.
like what happens if you are in flower, away from your plants for a day and your fridge cooling apparatus goes to hell in a hand bag??
those plants would cook in only a couple of hours, surely..
I bet you would be kicking yourself in the ass wishing that you would have just placed that cooling fan in the base of the fridge to cool the damn thing down to begin with.

just remember when you are taking the components apart from the fridge to do it in a well ventilated area as there is freon in the compressor and the lines.. it is not the best shit for you to be inhaling..

Love the fridge. Are you going to lst or train the plants? Looks like you might run out of vertical room if you dont.
