My First Grow, so far that is...

So, I have trolled the forum for a long time, but figured it was time to start posting.

This is my first grow ever and I am doing it in a closet. Current Set up is light reflective white paint, 1 mylar sun visor, 3 potting plants, 30lbs bag of dirt, and water.

The CFLS are screwed into a y adapter screwed in to a bulb-to-wall outlet adapter, plugged into a power strip.

They are about a month old now so I guess I am ready to flower soon, but I am not sure.

I hope out of the 5 plants at least two are female.

Any tips, advice, or comments would be nice. Like I said, never grown before, hope I am doing ok.

Thanks,

I would size up your plants and try to ditch 2 (*IF* it's possible) from the pots. When they go into flowering you're not going to want them swordfighting for nutes, light and space. I would also recommend trying to get a couple of bulbs on the sides/middle/bottom of the plants as well.

I'm just starting out as well and the only things extra I'm using are a 150w HPS light and a Hydro & Soil grow to see which I prefer working with.

I figured with 5 plants at least two would be male, So, I figured I would just remove the males and thus relieve the stress off of the females. I only have 3 potting plants to work with and this is after i transferred them from coffee cups two weeks ago.

I have some LED lights coming in this week sometime and a scale for the eventual (fingers crossed) harvest.

How far in to flowing can you sex the plants?

I think I killed a plant today. I was try to bend on to crop it a bit and i went to far and the stem snapped 75 percent off. I have it propped up to take the weight off of the stem, but I don't know if the plant will be able to heal itself.

PLants look healthy :-) Stick with the 5, once you flower them you will see the males within 14 days on average so that will thin things out a little, law of averages says you should hit 2 maybe 3 females from the 5.

Re the snapped stem ..... just splint it up like one would a broken arm ! it will be fine. use rubber bands to secure it as they have some 'give' in them as the stem fattens up. Remember these plants are incredibly resilient, its actually hard to kill a cannabis plant!

Good luck.

The stem has not repaired itself yet, but the plant does not look like it is dying either.

So these are ready for flowering?

If so, I am just waiting on my timer in the mail, should be here in a day or two then I will start flowering.

I wish I knew what kind of strains these are. They are just seeds from random buys.

Hey there Mooby. Glad to hear the plant healed. Sounds and looks like your doing a good job thus far from what I can tell(though I'm no expert...just on second grow). My last grow took about 2&1/2 weeks to sex after going to 12/12(even though they turned out male...*sigh*). Dont fret, chillax, and amp up that patience. Oh, and I concur with other's suggestions of keeping plants to their own respective pots to ensure no "nute battles" ensue..... :)

I think the growth spurt started. I just went to check the lights and there was a half inch between the tallest plant and the lights. So I upped it another 3 1/2 inches.

I gave myself false hope today. I was staring at the plants and I thought i saw little hairs coming out from all the plants, then i realized, that it is not close enough yet. lol.

Can you plant new seedling in the same light cycle as flowering? I am afraid if I don't get the next crop in soon. I will have too long in between grows.

Sure you can. People do 12/12 from seed alot. It cuts out like a 1 - 3 weeks depending on strain(finishing times vary). BUT, in doing so, the plant does'nt reach it's peak maturity before flowering, so your compromising yeild and possibly potency as well for a quicker harvest time. I all comes down to what your looking to get out of it. Faster production, less quality/quantity.... or slower production, superior quality/quantity.
