California Conundrum

CrackerJax just posted that the black market prices are about to be a thing of the past in Cali. Fade to Black backs this up by posting he cant get rid of his stash.

My question is, what are Cali growers gonna do to make a living now? I doubt many of them are gonna move away from Marijuana Mecca? Are they gonna be satisfied with their victory and get a job in the garden department of home depot?

Ive thought about this too. But like you said I really doubt you would ever see this in home depot. Plus you don't see tobacco seeds in any garden stores do you?

They predict in a year public support for legalization will pass the majority mark.. Only a matter of time until it's legal

There's no way in hell the prices will stay anywhere near where they are. It will follow the trend of all other agriculture and be done by large co-ops or investment groups. Infact the other day I was just thinking about how I could buy a large apple orchard in foreclosure and save it to grow on in 5 years. Irrigation, soil, frost control, etc already taken care of. Oh and they already have cabins for the migrant workers :p

And it doesnt just apply to Cali growers. That weed is going to spread out from cali and affect all markets.

I didnt mean to imply that they would be selling seeds and plants at home depot, but that they could get a job at a gardening center due to their experience in the field

Another thought I had..

Making a type of 'portfolio' to document experience and successes. People will be looking to hire consultants and want proof of your experience. Sure you can get a BA in horticulture... But we all know that only says so much for growin weed in a warehouse.

I see consulting making way more than growing soon.

Not unless they give subsidies to farmers to change their crops... Which wont happen

The majority of the weight will come from outdoors, but I think a good amount will still come from indoors. Do you know how cheap it is to build a steel-pole building in South Dakota and not worry about weather, bugs, pesticides etc...

I see weed being a 'quality' crop such as grapes for wine simply because it already is. They tried the mass outdoor production in the 70s in mexico and the weed was crap. You see it in places like Morocco to date even.. And they still dont have very good product.

Also, growing in a greenhouse is growing 'indoors'.. just no vented light hoods to deal with. You still have all the other problems

I'm rambling...Feel free to pick away my argument :)

lol cool man, i dont have many opinions on the subject being im from Australia its not a hot topic over here,.. but from wot i read its a double edged sword for me, on one hand id love to see my beloved peace herb be recognised for the good it does and ppl can benefit from it legally,.. but i also love ladyweed bcos she feeds my kids, pays my car payments etc.. and if legalised im worried that yeh,..well just worried that id HAVE TO start analysing all these same issues u guys are facing..
ANywho, i mention outdoor/greenhouse bcos its where im headed, the more i think about greenhouse growing the more it makes sense, theres a BIG free HPS in the sky..plus we are getting smart metered soon and power is rising 40% in a month or so..
Free energy in the sky.

ha ha but dudes legal weed is the end of potheads making money from potheads. government steps in and turns it in to cigarettes. thats bullshit that they get to make the money. decriminalize it so its no trouble then everybody can get it and we can grow it stress free. decrim is the way to be vote no on legalization (you wont be able to smoke in ur car it will be like an oui)!!!!!!!!!!!

thanx for dropping by the thread fade. I doubted you would be following in the foot steps of your name. I would really like to here more about the pot politics of california. I had assumed after a couple successful grows I would move to Mecca myself. When I was in the army 7 yrs ago I was stationed at DLI in Monterey and I always dream of returning to nor cal. but if I would have to compete with so many already established growers. I might be better off going to a place with lenient pot laws or a burgeoning medical marijuana community

Do you guys think that companies like Philip Morris would be willing to invest many millions to get in on the market knowing that there is the chance that the feds could completely fuck them if we get an administration that's not tolerant? I have my doubts.

Personally, I don't see it becoming legal in the next election. But, the fact that it's being considered means that it's just a matter of time.

Another thought... if it is legal, with California being the only state (for now), there ought to be quite a flood of people coming here to buy (even more than currently) - which may keep the market quite healthy (and prices good).

ditto.
i am in position to take advantage of the trend, if it spreads to my area, which it surely will once the potential income from taxation and the impact of a new industry...

For a pound in cali once its fully legal it's going to be $200-$400 a Pound for some good chronic and all that good purple shit cuz everyone is going to be growing and just trading and tossing weed around like cigs I think the value of pot will go down extremly from 3k a lbs to $300 lol I will stop growing and just by then. What you guys think of the value of that good chronic strains gonna be if fully legal? Ppl who make a living off pot now WILL have to work at home depot then.
