The Great Flushing Debate

There seams to be some debate on whether one should flush their plants or not. Many books suggest that flushing is needed for clean burning and sweat tasting buds.

Some would argue that flushing is not needed if the right level of nutrients are used.

So I would like to open up a thread to address this subject.

Do you flush your plants?
How long?
RO water?
Any additives like Final Flush or Clearex used?
Ever done a direct comparison between flushing and not flushing?

Let's keep this thread on subject....Flushing.

I have not grown for a long time, but I have a crop 3 wks into flower now. I am going to flush like we did back in the old days...with straight pH water for the last 10 days. :weed:

I believe in the Flush. On my first soil grow I picked some off early before flushing and dried etc.. Well.. it definitely tastes a whole lot better flushed. I flushed for 14-16 days in soil. I am now on my first hydro go and I really am lost as to how long to flush. Seems like with hydro the nutes would disappear more quickly. I've read only a week, but I saw in your thread you do two.

Ive harvested 2 plants at the same time, one being flushed and the other i used normal nutrient strength. I didnt notice a difference. I "did" burn my plants. Some how a 5.2 ph went unnoticed for a week with a high ppm feed. But i did burn both plants pretty similarly. These plants were clones from the same mom. Shouldnt the flushing have atleast changed the taste some? Oh yea i flushed with Clearex first day than ran distilled water for 5 days.DWC was the method.

Do you flush your plants? Yes
How long? 1-2 weeks
RO water? No filtered water.
Any additives like Final Flush or Clearex used? Only useful for Hydro systems
Ever done a direct comparison between flushing and not flushing. Yes, a friend of mine did not flush worst smoke ever, fixed with water curing.

Do you flush your plants? - Yes
How long? - Final 2 Weeks of flowering
RO water? - Just tap water
Any additives like Final Flush or Clearex used? - No ... Water works fine!
Ever done a direct comparison between flushing and not flushing? - Can't say I have done a side by side comparison, but experience would suggest that flushing does make for better taste and smoother burning :)

NOTES:

- I only flush when using Synthetic nutrients ... When using Organic nutrients no flushing is requires - This one I've actually compared and there was no noticeable difference between the two. Organic matter wouldn't really 'flush' if you're growing in soil anyway - Hydro maybe?

- Water Curing (Controversial Topic) removes the need to flush when growing either Synthetic or Organic, Soil or Hydro.

My first experience with coir.

I didn't flush during the veg / extension step, but as it's starting to flower I decided to give it a rinse once a week.

I put the pot in the bath and rinse the soil with 30l of tap water (the pots are about 15l). I'm judging when to stop by the color of the run off. It will look like the first piss of the day and then clear.

Sometimes (particularly if the coir is kind of dry), nothing appears with the first watering can through because it runs straight through the coir without dissolving much build up. If you leave it for a few minutes to soak in and get on with something else, you'll be rewarded with a golden brown stream with the next watering can.

I let them sit to drain off for five or ten minutes, then pour a few liters of ph / nut water through to set them back on their way.

I didn't start due to taste, but I'm running mine to waste and I'm aware that nut. is probably building up in the coir, which may harm things like water uptake. With most of the roots in water (like in DWC), build up should be no where near the same.

First time I did it I was expecting them to hate it, but they actually seem to love it. As does the cat, who gets into the bath with them and prowls around in the weed forest for an hour.

The last 2 weeks is when your plants will put on the most weight therefor they need nutes to help them thicken up right until the last day. Then the 'Emergency Flush' method can be used to flush the plant and I can guarantee you that it works very well.

Heres a couple links that explain the emergency flush:

http://www.marijuanagrowing.eu/emergency-flushing-for-harvest-t21899.html

http://www.marijuanagrowing.eu/mr-o-s-how-too-emergency-flush-using-a-bubbler-t29346.html?hilit=emergency%20flush

I use this method and always have great results and great tasting/smelling buds.

waterfarm setup right now 50 days into flowering

Getting ready to flush this is my first grow

I have been trying to focuse the tichomes to see if i can start flushing or wait ? but i cant get them focused and yes i have a 100x mag just my eyes and hands dont work good together when its so smalll.

The buds get bigger the last two weeks of flowering so i dont want to start flushing to soon or i might not get as big buds. I have almost i would say 60% of my hairs are amber i know this is not the best way to tell when to start harvest.

Well Just trying to see what every one has to say. The pics suck because of the HPS light.

Hey Stinkbud Hows it grow'n man ? just thought id touch base's with you and introduce myself in a simi-new cultivator from the great state of Cali and im here for fun and knowledge.I ran into a loyal subscriber of your threads the other day on one of my threads and he had a pretty jacked up attitude about finding my sight instead of yours because of the name similaities.Well let me say ive used this name on other sights as well as when i found RIU it has always been with 2d's and the (1) i hope you dont as well think i shoplifted your handle because thats not the case bro..All said i do enjoy lots of your post as ive been checking you out and think i can learn a thing or two from you so i hope you welcome me into your threads as i welcome you to mine!!+ rep for this thread as well this comes in handy for more reasons than just a simple flush..Longer nute supplying/better chop times /for soil user's better flush because it's hard to get all the nute's out of soil..etc.so props on a very good thread bro..Peace

So far I've flushed soil and coco. 2 weeks prior to harvest. 3-1 flush ph 7-7.2 plain water untill cut.

I'm on day 4 of a water cure. Tried one today still a bit green.

All depends on your system and method. No need to flush for me.

My ppm's never exceed [email protected], 67.5f water, 78f to 81.5 f lights on and off, i only use one veg nute. one for flower, ph down and maybe a little 1/2 cap of hygrozyme if they need it.

i can drink the water from my Igloos throughout the grow with no ill affects. Last two weeks they go nuts. I like the taste of Marijuana.

Not fertilizers.

I'll flush the toilet,,,,

but not my girls,,,,
