What did I make?

I pulled enough weeds from my garden this spring to nearly fill a 55 gallon trashcan completely. I then filled the trashcan with enough water to totally cover the weeds. It's been 2 months now and the water is near black, smells, and the plant matter appears to have completely broken down. Is this compost tea?

there are a few sticky's at the top of the organic forum that cover different types of compost/guano teas, you might find what your wanting to make on there.

I might as well update this since this is a 2 year old thread.

What I made was a simple compost tea. When fed regularly to half of my pepper plants, they were more green than the one's just getting plain water. Yield, vigor, flavor and plant health were really unaffected, though soil structure was improved.

These days, the garden gets a proper NPK fertilizer as weeds just go into the compost bin and come out as compost which is mixed into the soil in the spring. While the 'compost tea' was a fun experiment, it's pretty much a waste of time.
