incandescent light bulb questions...why so many haters?

The power of the energy. A 1000W light is putting out over 100,000 lumens at its source. That is intensity. Now, as you increase distance your intensity drops by 1/2 per 1'. So at 1' your intensity is 50,000 lumens. At 2' you intensity is 25,000 lumens and at 3' your intensity is at 12,500 lumens.

Now, take a bulb that has 1100 lumens. At 1' you have 550 lumens. At 2' you have 275 lumens and at 3' you have 137 lumens.

Now take 2 bulbs at 1100 lumens. If they are on either side of the plant the plant is getting more lumens but not more intensity of light. The light simply does not penetrate as far with smaller bulbs and it does not add up. You could put 10 bulbs at 1100 lumens and 1' away your meter would still read only 550 lumens.
i just read this in one of the sticky that conflicts your last statement:

"What this means is that if you put two lights the same distance from a point, and each light provides N photons per unit area at the point, with two lights you will have 2N photons per unit area at the point. Because intensity is a measure of the number of photons per unit area, the light is twice as intense, whatever unit you choose to use. Twice the lumens, twice the lux, twice the footcandles. "

edit: and this also proves cowboylogic wrong, BUT im not trying to prove anyone wrong i just want to know the truth cuz i get a different answer from different sources. RRRGGG this is confusssssing

what do u mean by intesity, just curious.(im a grow noob,at least to MJ, so im trying to learn as much as possible as i go along)
I guess a more strait forward answer would be that light bulbs don't emit any ultra violet (UV) light which all plants need to live in one degree or another.

MJ needs lots of various colors in the spectrum, UV being one of the most important.

And that's the one color in the spectrum (UV) that incandescents don't emit.

And that's basically why people "hate" incandescents.

Tadamofo,

You admit to being a newb, you ask a question and then you relentlessly argue about it. I am not here to have a debate I am here simply to try and inform you.

Fuck, grow your weed with painters lights if you want. THEY ARE REALLY REALLY BRIGHT!!!

Sidenote: The lumen rating of most bulbs, HID, compact fluorescent, tube fluorescent or incandescent. Are rated in the green spectrum. The area of the spectrum a plant uses very little of, if any. The spectrum the light is brightest and creates the most heat. Its all in the advertising. Studies up more on the spectrum, a plants needs and PAR rating a bulb. You will be more successful in your future grows if you do.

i dont know how many times i said i dont want to argue but i definatly mentiuoned it a few times.
with that being said, from the little research ive done, yes LITTLE, everything points to incandescents being able to grow a plant.

NOW i did not mean to offend you, but you said something that directly conflicted another statement made by another grower on this site so i pointed that out because i want to know who is right.

im sorry im not one of those people who is going to listen to someone because they say thats the way it is, i like to know why and how it works not just that it works.

Umm... Saying you dont want to argue while arguing does not invalidate the fact that you are ARGUING... *sigh*

im sorry im not one of those people who is going to listen to someone because they say thats the way it is,
I'm sorry I even answered your first question. You want me to spend my time and effort educating you and you are ungrateful for it.

Again, do whatever you want, it will not affect my grow.

i was thinkin along the lines that lumens are somehow based on candle power
1 candle = 1 candle power
2 candles = 2 candle power
yes not as intense light for penetration but intensity is different
we talkin bout lumens lumens is brightness no?

When you get right down to it we are talking about energy. How much energy is reaching your plant in the usable spectrum (for plants).

Most of the lighting produced today creates usable spectrum for humans ER: bright white light. Not the type that is great for plants. Which is why they make special grow lights.

you did answer my first question and i listen to your suggestion and read some of the stickys

and then i read something that conflicted another comment you made and i presented it to you, and now your giving me a prick attitude and acting like a dick
what the hell is up with that?

and also u told me they were not in the right spectrum but they are 2700k, is that not used to grow MJ.

i mean i could be wrong but i havent heard any facts that can help me understand that i am worng(if i am)

If you can grow a bud big enough to roll one single joint, with at least some buzz, with incandescent bulbs. Then Lil czr avatar will suck your dick. Two points here. First, cant be done. Second, why would anyone want that ugly mug bobby near your grown. LMAO Just thought this thread needed a bit of brevity.

I spent my time and effort to give you the correct answer. This has been debated endlessly and tirelessly by countless people.

There are right answers and wrong answers out there. You picked a wrong one and want to continue using my time to argue. At that point I choose to be a dick and tell you to do whatever the hell you want to. I am not obligated to FORCE you to understand the truth.

Do you even know what 2700k means? Beside it being a number you see referred too in the growing community?

This thread contains all of the basic info needed to point someone in the right direction for research on a personal level to understand lighting. Then after doing such research this thread could continue on a 'learnin level'. lol The OP claimed at one point to be educated. Do some research. The only thing I have seen so far in your arguments is '2700k, 1100 lumens and grows weeds'. You obviously do not have a clue. Crack the books, you claim to be educated.

damn wats with everybody being assholes
i suggested a theory and i wasnt gunna let the theory die untill it was completely dis-proven

and btw i do know what 2700k means

umm i clearly stated i am a noob to growing MJ so could u pls point out where i said i was educated...now your just putting words in my mouth

there are so many haters because incandecants use most of thier energy to create heat, if you have ever touched one you know it burns hotter than a frying pan (not really sure about that) but its hot as fuck, and it barely puts out any light for what energy its using.

that is why on cfls they use 26w but they say 100w equivilant..the equiv is the amount of light bieng put out. they can put out the same amount of light using a fraction of the energy. not to mention they burn way cooler.

take a look at some bulbs around your house if you have some incandecants...the wattage will seem crazy compared to cfls...i got a 65w cfl and im pretty sure it said it was a 300 w equivilant. it was a huge light but it only used 65 w and it really didnt put out much heat at all.

i guess thats why ppl hate on the "old school bulbs" they cause heat problems and are really a waste of good energy...the only reason ive heard someone wanting to use them is to put out some heat in the grow box.

Sorry dude, my bad. Just got threads mixed up a bit. Anyways crack the books and become educated then! And always remember this. "Sometimes the simplicity of something makes it difficult to understand."
