+rep vento i allready got plenty off ducting in my attic and i will purchase 4'' fan and filter but how will i use the dimmer can you explain that to me thanks and yes il be sticking with cfl as im doin autos and once iv got money il get a hps
Hi ya
If you allready have the ducting your half way there
The dimmer switch is just a cheaper alternative to a fan speed controller ( normaly about £30 ) and easy to rig up .
Might get a few people jumping in saying its not safe or it may harm your fan ... or it gives off a humming sound when it's turned down .. But i can asure you ... it works well and people have been using this alternative for years without any problems .
The choice is yours
Connect 3 core flex to your fan and run the wire to the plug socket ....
Don't plug it in
Get your Wilko dimmer , Open it up and and pop two holes in the box ..one at the top ..one at the bottom ... feed the wire thru the holes , Slide the box up the wire to where you want the dimmer on the wall , Fix the box to the wall .... add a plug to the end of the wire .
Pull a bit of a loop of wire out of the box ( about 6 " ) Get a stanley knife and GENTLY cut round the wire cover ..just enough to cut the plastic cover but NOT the wire insde .... then move down a few inches and do the same ... strip off the plastic covering to show the 3 wires ... Cut the red one in the middle and trim off the tips .
Now with the dimmer plate it has two screw terminal connectors in it ( top and bottom ) pop the bottom red wire into the bottom terminal and the top red wire into the top terminal and tighten them up , Pop the face plate on to the box with the screws ... make sure its switched off ....Plug in ... and turn it on
You WILL hear a slight humm from the fan on lower setting ...but its not an issue ( i await all the sparkys jumping in here saying its bad ...I don't care ...it works for me and has worked for 1000's of others for years with no problem )
I don't mess around with electrics and try and advise others not to ... but this is a tryed and tested method that i feel safe to use myself !
Good idea to clip the wire to the wall to save it getting ragged about
Hope that helps
