lots of new growth after cutting fan leaves off.

so a few weeks back my plant started to really yellow and turn black on the fan leaves and some of the new growth so i had to cut off about half maybe abit less of the big fan leaves. now my plant is doing great but the thing is the top looks normal and uniform till you get about half way down(where i had to trim all the leaves) then it starts bushing out majorly all kinds of branches have shot out and it looks great but it goes aginst what i know i thought if you trimmed the fan leaves it hurt your yeild cause it took that section of the plant but what has happend here is there is a ton more budsites way more then at the top.

what i want to know is, why did this happen? should i trim some more fan leaves that are damaged from when it had a down slump? is this the same concept of topping or FIM? im a newb sorry if this is a stupid question im just curious as to why this has happend.

If you look at where your major fan leaves meet your main stem you will usually see 2 little new leaf shoots just hanging out for a few days, by cutting the large fan leaf, these 2 sub leaves will grow their own branches and new sets of leaves on them , almost like when you top, all the lower sites think they are the top dogs and explode in growth.

i read somewhere here before, that someone cut off 1 fan leave from each set so instead of having 2 fan leaves per node he had one on all of them, apparently this made the bottom branches shoot out... not too sure about the facts on this but i thought i'd throw it in

thats cause your plant is putting all its energy into replacing the growth that was lost instead of new growth. In the future dont cut leaves unless they are starting to rot or come off with a gentle tug.

yeah i never cut fan leaves, i usually supercrop and top the plant to make it bushier, but topping is not all that great for me because i like getting 1 massive cola rather then 2 colas with skinny buds

like i said the leaves were yellow and black had to be pulled, but i kinda like the results i got i mean theres so many new budsites now so i dont really understand why it putting its energy into that new growth is bad?

The plant needs big fan leaves for good growth, they are the most effecient leaves, your plant realizes that and puts its energy into existing leaves and growth to replace the ones it lost.
Leaves may be dying, but that doesnt mean the plant has taken everything it wants from the leaves before dropping them. She will let you know.
oh well though, its not that big of a deal considering they were damaged leaves. are you in flowering now? i notice you said budsites, if your still vegging em its even less of a problem. Have any pics?

im outdoors so im still veging, should be budding any week now though pistils poping up all over, no i dont have pics at the moment but i should be getting a memory card for my camera tonight so ill have pics up ither tonight or tomorow

yeah i just went thru the same thing this morning.. i had some pretty intense spider mite damage so i cut about 7 of the most infected fan leves of the most infected plant.. the leaveas had literally thousands of spots and were beginning to turn yelow. she got about an hour of direct sunlight. which exposed alot of undergrowth to sunlght.. im hoping that this will help the plant live a healty life and encourage healthy growth..

Dude she looks like she gonna turn out heavy.. as for me its only day two.. i know i really stressed the hell out of her but if she turns out anything lke yours i will be doing further experiments.. also its its good to know that doing this will make the plant focus on recovery as opposed to focus on getting taller... i cant afford to have monster trees.. 2 or 3 feet is what im shooting for.

thanks for the positivity guys and i dont know if i would recomend doing this to a healthy plant i dont have a clue if this would happen in every case.
