This was my plan initially to just use dwc for cloning but I went to the hydro store and saw how cheap it would actually be to build a good size dwc system so bit the bullet and just did it.

Commercial air pump that goes to 6 stones with optional valves to close off certain lines (45$)
Bag of Hydrotron(18$)
6 5GAL buckets on sale at lowes (2.95$ Each)
Tubbing and airstones (about 15$ total)
Netpots (3$ x 6)
-10% Discount

Tada Under 100$ had a full 6 x 5gal bucket Hydro system not bad..Also I ordered a TDS meter to check PPM, 20$ shipped found it on google shopping, already have a PH METER

You have what you need ? Got cloning gel, powder or solution ?
Just follow the basics and you'll be fine.

Thanks Guys

@ Flo Grow

Yes i have cloning gel 3 weeks ago i took about 50 cuttings into 50% soil and 50% perlite but only 3 cuttings rooted
i got the shits and composted the one that didnt root 3 weeks and i got minimal roots on the one that did root and the other
had done nothing .
but i would have to say the cuttings still looked great they jus had no roots what so ever i hope this DWC tub works coz im thinking of jus throwing it in and giving up :(

So guys we need air bubbles every where Right ...

My rez is 80cms long and 40 cms wide and it holds 39 litres whats the rules of thumb regarding Airpumps for bubble cloners / bubble buckets

this is what my rez looks like some what http://www.organizeit.com/images/stornslide9gal.jpg

i have wraped the rez and lid in mylar so its water proof now :) and i have 25 Site in the lid

My air pump output is 3.5 litres a minute or 210 litre per hour will this do the job?
DSC00688.jpgDSC00692.jpgOr do i need a bigger Air pump thanks in advance

Nah, don't throw it in just yet.

You have the benefit of taking so many cuttings, you have plenty to practice with.
Is it not worth the effort to learn such a technique ? To be able to keep something you enjoy for as long as you want ?
Plus, rooting the way you attempted is a very difficult technique to start off with.
It does work for some ppl though.

Are you using neoprene collars to hold the cuttings, or rockwool or rooter plugs in net pots ?

Something simple that most don't follow:
When you take the cutting from a branch that is growing off the main stem
Try to take one with 2 - 4 sets of leaves. Preferrably 3 or 4.
Cut at 45 below the first node on clone.
You want 1 or 2 sets of lower leaves trimmed at the nodes and under the medium and 1 or 2 sets of leaves above the medium and leaves trimmed in half.
Try to initialy take the clone as close to the first set of leaves that will be trimmed off, as possible.
You want to dip that trimmed node along with the tip into your cloning gel.
Now you have 3 points from which to grow roots quicker, instead of just one at the tip itself.
Splitting the stem, slightly, with a razor blade exposes more of the Cambium layer that roots grow from !

TAKE CLONES FROM AS LOW ON THE PLANT AS POSSIBLE !
The higher the branch, the older the hormones and the slower they root. Old growth and fresh hormones start at the bottom and root faster.
The less Nitrogen in the mother and medium the better. High Nitrogen content slows root formation also.
Flush the mother plant 2 or 3 days before taking cuttings, to lower the Nitrogen content.

I would go bigger. And 4 ports if you can. Or TWO of those that you have now.
That is almost 10gal, so you'll have at least 8gal/32L of water in there.
Get long air stones too, like the 18 inch or at least 14 inch, since that res is over 30 inches long.

im going to use neoprene collars

thanks for all the help Flo Gro

ive taken cuttings a million times before but they alway take ages to root i have used a million mixes or soil and different combo or perlite and vermiculite its jus takes ages but since seeing the bubblers and areoponic cloners in action i feel like im missing out and it seem really easy

the thing im worried about is the Air being big enuff im not really worried about my method of taking the cuttings coz i know the way i do it works it jus takes time

thanks for the help i hope someone can ease my mind about the air Pump stuff

thanks Danny Boi

So that 210 and 160 so that 370 LPH would that do? im not sure

Thanks for helping out guys

In my opinion, the air pump is the most important part of DWC game.

The one I use ($55) is a 20w piston type that puts out 600 LPH & comes with a slick manifold... my pumps makes the water boil, roll, and bubble with a fury.

The cheap pumps pale in comparison.

Fish tank pumps get the job done ...no doubt ...but the power to run multiple buckets (stones) & get that water moving is not the same as with a more powerful (commercial) pump.

Worth every penny.

The more powerful pumps are louder when running ==> only downside

A basic 4 port air pump like the Eco model I have or the one that PetCo.com sells, is more than enough for buckets or coolers.
9LPH or 140GHP and good enough for UP TO 200gal tanks
2 ports per 5gal bucket or all 4 per cooler (which is what I now converted too).
The PetCo.com air pump COMES with 4 tubes @ 78"/ea, 4 mini air stones and 4 check valves
It also has adjustable air flow output....................all for less than $25 ! And it's not noisy !!

I have the Eco 4 on the left with 4 - 14inch flat air stones from wally world (the blue sticks).

I have the Pectco 4 on the right, with the 19 day old roots showing, and 4 - 4inch standing air stones (looks like little gray columns).

Both pumps turned up all the way. Both pumping equal bubbles too.

110 liters per minute split to two Coolers for 55 liters PER MINUTE.

I used to use and still recommend the dual diaphragm, 4 outlet pumps.

But the 110 liter PER MINUTE pumps ROCK my reservoirs.

I use 5 of the 110 lpm
and 12 dual diaphragms in our labs.

And we are phasing out the duallys.

BUBBLES

Cool Waters,
No light.

Australia, well that is a different story then all together.
I heard it's pretty hard to get some of the things you need to grow.
Do the best you can mate. Look around the Do It Yourself threads. Plenty of hot ideas for little on the pockets.
Check and look at other forums too. Willing to say 90%+ ppl on here look at more than 2 other forums.
You're up and running. That's the important thing !

i might see how i go with what i have and go from there

i thought maybe the 370 LPH might have been big enuff for a 39 litre tote i guess i might need that 125 litres a minute jobby on ebay lol
