My DWC Set-up...

Feeds with fresh oxygenated nutes and the rest runs off. Seems to be working awesome though. My lights come on @ 6PM gotta see how they are doing since i doubled the feed times to eight 30 minute cycles per day.

Tiger, it's not more efficient in the long run. No diff. Par for the course. It only compensates for the large net pot that hold the young roots inside. The top feeder is keeping the young plant alive.

Once the roots plunge into the water, the action will happen there. In fact, you can turn off the top feeder once the plant's roots are well established in the bubbling solution. You don't have to, though.

p.s. Later you can upgrade again to 5gal cooler containers w/ taps/plugs from Lowes/Home Depot. Like at games for the water/juice.
 
Once the roots get going real good the pump will be attached to a root sprayer system. Gonna start that in a week or two. Seen a few spray sprinklers @ the Hydro Shop I want to try out.
 
Bro I honestly think u could lose the top feed. The plant shown in the pic looks like its over watered actually i would have thought that if i didnt know but seeing how ur top feeding in rockwool in DWC im sure of that by the droopy leaves. Ur leaves should be standing str8 up grasping for lamp full time this is a good indicator for over or under watering. All u need to do is keep ur rock wet n lower ur water levels to 2-3rds from the top of the plants actual root base as you go. Maintain that and u should be golden. Let ur DWC system do the rest. There is no need for all the extra gadgets and stuff it only adds more problems to fix and counteract. Hope this helps. Peace

Ok, I'll do that when it gets just a bit more roots. There is a few starting to poke through @ the bottom. Until then I set the timer for one 30 minute feed 3 hours before the lights come on. On future grows, Do I even need the rockwool??? Could i just put the rapid rooter plug in hydroton??? Thank for the insite onthedl.

I wanted to a top feed system too because I was worried my newborns wouldnt be getting any water untill the roots came out the net pot. I ended up just making sure the water touched the bottom of the net pot, within a few days roots came out of the net pot. You will be fine without a top feed system, I have a similar set up but using 5 gal coolers not buckets.
 
Rapid rooter in hydroton is much better than rockshit cubes, IMHO.
Divide net basket height in half. Fill bottom half w/ hydroton, drop in plug then fill in around the plug till the hydroton is flush with the top of it.
Just make sure that when you're done, the top of the plug is even with the top of the net pot.
I use 5 inch net pots, which are 4 inches tall.
Keep pot IN 0.5 - 1 inch of water the first 10 days after seedling drops shell, then lower an inch under the pot.
You should have a few roots at this point as well.

FYI, when I drop my seed and tap root into my rooter, it goes immediately in the net pot the way I described above.

I pretty much followed Flo's instructions and after a good 5 days in the reservoir the roots were out of the net pot and into the water... Rapid Rooter plugs are a good way to go too. I also use 5.5'' net pots.
 
rockwool stays to wet for my likeing,if I use it I only use the 1 1/2 x1 1/2 to put germed seeds in,as soon as I get roots showing out the bottom I put them in 4" or 6" net pots with pea gravel,actually its gravel from a fish tank and it works for me, no hydro stores were im at.I see you have 1 wrapped in insulation,I did the same thing,Im just putting the final touches on a rdwc set up I made myself,I want to have my buckets linked togeather with a res to make things easyer as you will find out when it comes to changing your nute mix and keeping temps in line,also I dont see a water level tube on your bucket,this will let you know where your level should be and also let you know how much the plant is taking in. good luck your off to a good start keep an eye on you nute temps,I lost a plant 1 week from havest because my nutes got to warm.

No problem man. Check this out. I started a growtorial thread awhile back that i never got a chance to finish in it i explained tho how to set-up a very simple bucket useing the plugs and such. See the growth explosion in veg u can expect the same kinda growth in flower as well. Very simple man check it. Alrite it wont let me put the link. Awesome man looks like u got the over watering problem on the way to being fixed. Much difference from the first pic to the last 3. At this point it doesnt matter if u allow the rockwool to completely dry out ur roots r in the solution and feeding id keep the water level a couple inches below the bottom of the pot and let them do there thing. THE pros say the top third of the plants root supply like air either way so u cant lose. U will see as ur wool continues to dry ur leaves will begin standing up and reaching for the lamp in the next day or 2 and begin a real growth explosion. Stay on track u should b str8. Peace.
 
it's lookin even better this morning!!! Got a few more 6" net cups started in 1.5" R/W cubes and hydroton and two of the four 3" net cups with the rapid rooter plugs in hydroton.
 
root spray system like a irrigation system were they sprinkle from the top down on to the roots were a s the buubles blow up on roots???
