Countryfarmer's outdoor grow

Yes thats crazy that you have a plant from Mexican brick weed that out produces the Big Bud. For it to be more indica it has to bring on some good smoke. Do you ever make any editable's with your bud? You seem to have more passion then most the growers I see on here. You deserve every bit of harvest that you get. Good luck Country Farmer. :)

Mexican weed can be some of the best weed you will ever smoke. It's prone to hermies though.

Had bud rot too thanks to the intense tropical moisture. My colas were a big disappointment thanks to rot, a grasshopper epidemic, 60 mph winds from TS Hermine going right over us, lack of watering, extreme neglect, etc. I did finally get the leaf drop stopped by hitting her hard with high N foods - you do what you gotta do. If you ever grew C99, you'd know what a fruit bomb she is, just like chewing bubble gum or eating some Fruit Loops!

I understand about staking and duct tape! A couple of years ago I had winds split my plant in half at ground level, right between 2 of the 4 colas. Sprayed it with a fungicide, wrapped with duct tape and in spite of a holding basin of water it came through it all.

Plants are looking good.

Good luck!

Just a thought. There is another popular core belief in cannabis forums that unless you give a mutt a fancy name, it is crap. Photo ops, colorful strain names that conjure up thoughts of grandeur is way this cannabis seed game is played out. Don't get caught up in the hype.

I could take any one my crosses, give it some kewl name like Goddess of the Highest Order, market it thru some seed outlet and it would sell....with a few close ups of bud trichomes of course. ;)

Yep, weed has a great hype game going on, and the people who are doing it know they are positioning themselves for eventual legal status in the US. Too much future income at stake. Some folks are doing it legit, and I think will reap great rewards from doing so. And then you have the fly-by-nighters that are only dropping in to grab a quick buck off the gullible.

I should know, I was one of those gullibles. I didn't thoroughly research seed banks before ordering and paid the price in a full male crop of plants that were all supposed to be females. I'm just glad that one of the "free" seeds grew as a female, and that I dropped those mexican bag seeds in the ground just for grins and giggles. Otherwise I would have only learned one lesson and not all of the knowledge I have accumulated this grow.

As it is, I am glad everything that happened, happened the way it did. Lots of great experience and I am looking forward to my first harvest. :)

My fav and probably would still be if it were available was Colombian. I never knew if it was "red" or "gold"; it was just called "Colombian". Jamaican ran a close second. UB you are so right about all the BS; it never stops.

The thing about hype, you will only fool so many people until the word gets around that your product is crap. It is a self-destructive form of predatory behavior. These same people would be infinitely better off financially in the long run if they simply played the game straight instead.

Ok, had to continue the daily check because of the bud rot I found just yesterday. So far, the surrounding bud sites appear to be healthy. I don't plan on going out there tomorrow, but will feed them on Monday. It will probably be my last feeding of the season.

I plan on letting the bud fully ripen and would like it to be using some of the fan leaves going into harvest. I've done a pretty good job of keeping the plants green all year. Now I am going to let it eat itself going into the final two weeks. I should be harvesting sometime early the week of October 17th. I am fairly positive 15 more days should be enough, but if necessary will prepare the ground for the first frost and let the plants ride it out. I don't think that will be necessary though.

The smallest of the two unknown strain plants is wilting along the branch that broke. I believe it to still be alive, but think it shows the weakness in this plant compared to the other same unknown strain. That plant had a much larger branch, one of the main colas, break cleanly down the plant and yet my wrapping, splinting and taping appears to have been enough to keep it from going into shock at all. Just shows the difference in strengths among the same plant strain.

This has actually taught me another lesson and one that I plan on carrying forward into my future indoor grows. While collecting my plant stock for my indoor grow, I plan on buying and growing from seed several females in each strain I am interested in. Close to harvest I will take clones of all of the plants. Once my harvest has dried and cured I will taste test all of it, and determine which I like the best. That plant will become my mother plant and will be what I grow in that particular strain until another seed impresses me.

I am really looking forward to it, and rereading Ed's Handbook for inspiration. Life is good for this 40-something stoner. Toke on brother and sisters, toke on!

Oh, and one thing I forgot. I fucking hate helicopters. Jesus Christ! Out there inspecting my tape job and the next thing I hear is rotor blades. The helicopter came up behind me and all I had time to do was squat next to the plant and do the whole rabbit freezing routine. Thankfully it was flying just far enough away that they did not see my grow or me. I am pretty sure it was one of the state police helicopters due to the symbol on the side.

I guess I am pretty stoned right now (medicinal; stress relief, lol) because I forgot to even relate that. It would have totally sucked to get found at my grow site just two weeks away from harvesting.

I thought you were growing legally *lol*. I will be looking forward to your harvest. There are so many strains out there, to many if you ask me. Though alot are just hype like UB says strains like Northern Lights and Mango are always nice strains to grow. Your grow looks great man. Keep up the shit. I smoked some real good red mexican once. Perfect sativa high to it, really oranges and red tint all through it. Like to see finished plants in the end of this.

Lol, wish I was legal. In my state I would be looking at at least 5 years for this grow, mandatory minimum sentencing.

Thanks for the kind words. Lots of hard work involved to just get this far.

I am real curious to see how the high is going to be from these pampered mexican stain plants. I am sure that they will be at least better than the bag these seeds came from simply because the bud won't be beat to death by the time I smoke it. We shall see. Even though I am real proud of this grow I will do my best to give clinical feedback on how the plant performs when home grown.

LMAO @ 5 years mandatory minimum sentencing for growing a plant that buds like corn. It's like the government thinks were crack dealers. It's all about the money for them.

CF, I hear ya. I'm in a fly over area for Fort Hood military helicopter training. Based on my legal crop, I can still hide it in the rows though. Outdoor growing has it pros and cons as does indoor growing. At least the light is free.

Might wanna check out a bio-degradable fungicide called Consan 20 aka tertianary Ammonium chloride. I culled a secondary harvest just a few hours ago and had to finger pick out some rot....not fun.

The high from the bagweed Mexican pot will surprise you. I doubt if you'll bring it in by donkey, compress it, subject it to all kinds of abuse which results in the immediate breakdown of the THC......

Have fun,
UB

Thanks for the information UB. And yeh, I am pretty sure since I haven't beat the snot out, it should be a distinct improvement over the buds the seeds were pulled from. Even when I smoked this stuff though (my neighbor supplied it, I don't usually buy mexican brick weed), I remembered that it surprised me in how good it was (all things considered). Of course it didn't rise to the stuff I usually manage to get ahold of, but I am hopeful that my tender loving care this season will make it a much better smoke.

Add to the care shown in harvest, I am actually planning on curing everything properly, which I know the brick weed doesn't experience. I imagine the smoke will be completely different.

Mornin' Farmer, got a link you might be interested in. This is how I did it.... https://www.rollitup.org/advanced-marijuana-cultivation/368171-roots-above-ground-3.html#post4722381

Yeah, that Mex weed will not compare with what you smoked out of the bag. I've grown some bag weed and it was very trippy. Almost a clear LSD type of high. (yes, I've done plenty of acid and REAL peyote to know what I'm talkin' about.) The kind of high that just keeps on coming on.

Curing - I made a comment about that in a Flush thread you might be interested in. It's in the Advanced forum.

Good luck........

Well, after last week's rainy days that drenched everything, I am really happy with the how the weather has been. Nice sunny days in the high 70's with winds from 5 to 15 mph. And the ten day forecast shows days and days of the same ahead. So, with the way this wind has been steadily blowing my plant soil should be nicely dried out and I shouldn't have any problem feeding them tomorrow.

Tomorrow's feeding will be the last they get. They are going to get one blast of phosphorus from a 0-45-0 blooming fertilizer and from here on out nothing but water. I'll update tomorrow with some new pictures.

Ok, got some new shots of the three girls along with some shots of my taping and wrapping.

Here is the Big Bud.

And some shots of the best looking plant at the site, my mexican unknown strain.

And the runt plant. Another unknown mexican strain plant, but this one has small bud sites. I'll make hash out of it instead.

There ya go! Hope you like them.

As you can tell on the last few shots that plant's branch is not recovering from being broken. I think it just indicates again how plants can vary among the same strain. The other unknown mexican strain had a much worse break and except for the taped area you would be unable to tell.

I envy you for being able to grow outdoors. Way too risky where I live, even though I can grow legally, neighbor's houses are too close and there would be no way to hide it from them. I just don't want them to know, lol. One knows already because he's a smoker and recognized the smell when I was curing some in the veg room and he happened to walk by my garage door right after I had checked on everything so the garage was all stinky.

He seems cool but I still don't like the idea of him knowing.
