Well those of you who have cat(s) id like some info. First off are they really okay with babies? i have a 2yr old so i know the cat would be clawless. Just dont know if its good idea or not to get a cat. i live in an Apartment 2nd floor too. Are they expenisve to buy and maintain? i understand what they need i just would kinda like some figures on how much supplies a month would be. And how they do around our plants. And i dont even know what to look for in a cat. I owned german shepards my whole life. Are there better breeds than others? And do the prices range all over? What could i expect to pay for a high quality kitty lol? If anyone knows some info on them breed wise and such thatd be cool to read. Thanks!

the only worry of cats around babies (and pregnant women) is that there is a bacteria that they can carry in their feces, and thus spread to humans through scratching. With your child already being two yrs old, it should not be a problem.... other than that, check out this page for info on the specific breeds of housecats...

cats are damn cheap, can find them for free in craigslist and newspapers all over as they have large litters often..... food/litter is a negligible amount of money every month unless you're the crazy cat lady with 30 of em :)

Crap, get a cat with nails and all. I got my first two cats when I was two, the last one passed away 19 years later.
It realy gave me such a bond with them. I suppose the fact that my dad loved kitties also helped.
I Have 6 today :), but they do cost an arm and a leg to feed. Especialy only eating Royal canin, 15kg bags of cat food, people check me out funny.

lol, oh jah, get a pavement special, and get a female.
Males walk around, are prone to fatal bladder/kidney problems, and may stat pissing against your curtains when spayed too early.

If you do get a cat, please don't declaw it. That it animal abuse and I'm suprised that it is still legal to do the procedure in any civilized country. They cut the cats last nuckle off of their paws. If you can't deal with some scratching, don't get a cat.
Also, please get a cat from the pound or a rescue place. There are tons of cats that need homes out there.
Cats are cool, hopefully you can give a good home to one.

removing claws is extreme cruelty. The cat never fully recovers, will have chronic pain, and just be miserable his/her whole life.

There are tons of different breeds out there. Some much more expensive than others. I have a savannah.

As you can see they are significantly more expensive then typical domestics. There is a lot of info about them on that website. I got a savannah because they are extremely playful and doglike, they look amazing and they are typically healthier than domestics due to hybrid vigor.

I think there is alot of value for a kid to learn from a mutt cat, like you don't have to be special to be special.

lol trust me they are. That price is for an F1 which is the direct descendant of an african serval parent. They can be pretty expensive because servals don't typically want to mate with domestic cats so they are hard to breed. Mine is an F2 and I paid about 4K for him.

People are amazed when they see him, my house is like a petting zoo. The neighbors bring their grandkids over to see the cats etc. It's crazy how much attention this cat gets by people.

my wife wants one of those, but at the prices I've seen, I'd just go for the actual serval or other smaller, wild cat..... beautiful kitties though they are :)

No not the tiger :P

they're a cool breed if you want a mini-panther or leopard.

My Norwegian Forest cat is bigger than most Bengals i've seen.

My favorites though are Sacred Birmans. They are bred from the same parents as Himalayan (Persian Colorpoints) but lean more towards their Siamese side.

Very kind, docile and clean cats.
