ph testing - noob question

I've got the 'aquarium' style PH tester where you compare the color of the water to a chart after adding a few drops of solution. My question is how to test the PH of water after I've added my nutes? Do I need one of those more expensive ph meters? Can anyone recommmend a good cheap one?

Ia there any other alternative to spending that much on a ph meter?

after i add nutes to the water they change color so i guess it effects the color that the test is showing..
it makes it difficult to determine with a simple pH kit..

I have one of these, i tried them little aquarium dropper testers and litmus test papers when i started and they are a pain in the ass compared to the meter and its really easy to tell what it is, no comparing colors or any of that stuff. Just a plain number. It's well worth the money and already comes w/calibration fluid.
I have been meaning to get a digital ph meter and I have seen the one you mentioned here a few times on this forum so I decided to go ahead and order it. This calibration solution it comes with, how long should that last? Have you had to buy more? How much was it? Thanks!

i got the solutions online from a site call sunstoneherbal.com for $1.50 before i was shown the link i gave you. I had to buy some cuz like a dumbass i went and didnt have them folded closed all the way and i spilled them both all on the floor and b4 i could try to pick em up and salvage them it was already to late. Unless you do something like that you shouldnt need to get more for a long time.

Actually, I'm pretty sure you can use the calibration solution more than once, at least all of them ive ever seen have been good for many uses. You just dip your ph meter in the ph calibration solution and pull it out after confirming its accurate, then it says on all of mine from 3 different ph meter makers calibration fluids ive bought that it should be folded closed and kept at room temperature until next useage, i tried different ph meters, just make sure your probe is clean before sticking it in so it doesnt slowly mess of the ph solutions numbers.

I never saw that on any of them that i rememberive got but you may be correct, it may have said it on the more detailed info page i threw out, i read through it and all but i might have skimmed over it. I know ive used them longer than 6 months and didnt have a problem.

I know only through the company website, not from any package or the printed instructions, seems a bit of meter info is not well consolidated for some reason.
