In reality, MG isn't bad for plants. Most people who give MG crap are people who plant in fertilized MG soil and use MG nutes ontop of that. Thats just too much! "Making it Rain" is the most effective way to use MG i've found. You alternate Nute Feeding and flushing your soil instead of watering. Keeps the plants from burning very well. Be careful using it on younger plants, use 1/4 strength or less doses for a while. Just find a regimen that works for you!

Miracle Grow nutes are made from the leftover petroleum that cannot be made into other products.

It is carcinogenic. (Producing a systemic effect in the cells of the plant which cannot be flushed)

A friend who is a chemist explained to me that Smoking MG nutes causes endocrine damage in mammals.

Hope That Helps!

my first grow was with MG time release i think it was like 6 months or some shit but it worked great untill the plant started flowering then it all of the sudden was getting burnt. so i flushed 2 times and it cured the problem. she grew great and tasted sooo sweet and delicious.

I see that they have an organic potting mix now. In Norcali, Mendo - Humbolt, it is considered poisonous.

Old school farmers here have tried everything in the past and have reported through the grapevine that it is very unhealthy to smoke buds grown with the MG nutes.

If it works for you, go for it.

I wouldn't use it.

Toxic chemicals in Miracle-Gro seed starter mix?
Quote

I just bought a package of Miracle-Gro seed starter mix and I noticed there is a warning on the back:

"IMPORTANT: Wear gardening gloves when using this product"

So my vegetable seeds are going to soak up the chemicals in this mix that is so toxic that I can't even touch it with my hands? And then I'm supposed to eat those vegetables?

Am I worrying unnecessarily or should I look for another seed starter mix?
Harmful Effects of Miracle Gro

Many gardeners use Miracle Gro fertilizer products to give their plants or lawn a quick boost, and when used correctly, it can make a plant grow larger and greener. Synthetic fertilizers like Miracle Gro provide plants with the nutrients they need, but they may not be the healthiest thing for your soil, your family or the environment.

Best Of Luck!

Dangers for People and Pets

The warnings on the Miracle Gro label state many of its dangers. If ingested, Miracle Gro can cause vomiting and irritation of the mouth, stomach and esophagus. If inhaled, it can irritate or damage airways and lungs. The label also recommends avoiding contact with skin and eyes and immediate washing if contact does occur. People and pets that touch plants or play on grass that has recently been fertilized with Miracle Gro can become ill or get an unpleasant rash.

Farmer-I have yet to see scientific data to back up the claims of MG being bad. I hate to tell you but all ferts are not to be ingested, or worn on you. Yes it is a chemical fert, big deal unless you are trying to go organic. If you are going organic i highly suggest you dont put that stuff on you either. All i have seen are claims but nothing to back it up....as in scientic evidence. I see alot of here say and i heard from a guy type stuff. Can you show a documented test in a scientic jopurnel that states we should not use MG for anything? I think not because it doesnt exist. If i am wrong and you can provide this so be it. I have asked for this for a long time and no one has been able to produce this.

Left over petroleum? I doubt that, how about this?
The four basic ingredients in Miracle-Gro plant fertilizer are sulfur; potassium chloride; urea; and ammonium phosphate, monobasic.

How did MG ever become certified to grow food products if it were "The Devil" you are trying to portray it to be?
As for the endocrine damage, smoking anything causes that due to carbon monoxide - MG has nothing to do with it.

Carbon monoxide poisoning endocrine damage

Carbon monoxide poisoning can cause damage which impacts cellular functioning throughout the brain and body. It deprives cells of oxygen and has a toxic effect. The brain, nervous, and endocrine systems are especially sensitive to oxygen deprivation and toxic exposure.
The endocrine system is a system of glands throughout the brain and body that regulate mood, growth, sexual function, reproductive processes and metabolic activity.
The endocrine system includes the pituitary gland, thyroid, parathyroids, adrenal glands, pancreas, ovaries (in women) and testes (in men).
The brain and endocrine system are tightly linked together. Brain functioning relies on endocrine functioning. Endocrine functioning relies on brain functioning. They are connected and depend on one another.
Even a mild brain injury can impact the brain and endocrine system. A large percentage of people with mild brain injury are unaware that they have had a brain injury and that it is impacting them. This is especially true of carbon monoxide survivors.
As carbon monoxide poisoning starves the entire brain of oxygen and also has a toxic impact, it can damage and [subtley] impact a wide range of brain functioning.
If the brain and endocrine system aren't functioning properly then the endocrine system can have problems producing or secreting the appropriate hormone, or the appropriate amount of hormone, or at the appropriate time.
Disruption of the endocrine system can in turn cause problems with energy levels, moods, blood sugar levels, body temperature, sleep, sexual function, digestion, appetite, weight, and much more.

-If you guys like it, use it.

I prefer to go Organic and All Natural knowing that I am not ingesting toxins by smoking them..

:) LOL!

Wow.

Ok so in other words you have no scientic proof that Miricle grow is bad to grow with. As far as the warning no kidding. I am not arguing that. I will tell you what why dont you ingest some bat guano and tell me how you feel in the morning? It too will make you sick IF you do not use according to directions. Give me a break you do know that if you consume to much caffine it will kill you too right? If you follow the directions it is fine. Do not feed it to your dog. That is just common sence. Do not get it into your eye ipromise you if you get bat guano in your eye not only do you have the issues of burning and what not, but disease too. Man all i ask is can you provide scientific proof. So far I have seen nothing not just you, but from anyone. You do know they put warnings on coffee cups too. So bottom line there is NO scientific proof that MG does anything to your plants or leaves anything in your plants that would be harmful. Man just leave the kool aid alone.

The point is: The toxins in Miracle Gro permeate the cell walls of your plants. (Systemic) You cannot rinse it out.

It doesn't take a rocket surgeon to know that it shouldn't be smoked.

And insulting me by calling me a kool aid drinker was entirely unnecessary and obviously incorrect, as I am demonstrating the importance of THINKING FOR ONESELF.

Sorry you were right about the Kool aid comment. For that I am sorry.

I agree people should think for themselves and not keep puking these myths. What toxins? I have yet to see any scientific proof. All i have seen and heard are unproven myths. Please if you can provide me that proof, i will be more than happy to change my stance. I used to think like you untill i did the research and found nothing to substanciate these claims that MG is bad. If you have this info please provide it. So far all you have provided is warnings from the box, which are common sence. You said your chem buddy said this. Ok were did he get this info? Can you provide this documention?

I am demonstrating the importance of THINKING FOR ONESELF.
1) What toxins? On what lable does it say "Made from left over petroleum products"?
2) I believe that would be "Rocket Scientist".
3) Thinking for ones self is very important as long as you're not basing your conclusions on erroneous information.

A better question, since we are talking about people's health, would be; "Can you provide documentation that Miracle Gro is NOT harmful?"

"Tis better to err on the side of caution".

And as far as it being PETROLEM based:

http://dirtbyamystewart.blogspot.com/2006/04/whats-big-deal-with-miracle-gro.html

I don't use synthetic fertlizers like Miracle Gro or Osmocote. These chemical fertilizers are by-products of the petroleum industry, they're salt-based, and they're almost always overkill. Runoff of fertilizer chemicals in to streams and water supplies is a serious problem. You're also more likely to burn plants by using too much synthetic fertilizer, and you can even hurt the soil: there's nothing like high-nitrogen chemical lawn fertilizer to damage your earthworm population.
