Help me choose a car...

So here's the situation, I will be selling off my old car here in the next 6 months and am expecting around 3-4k for it, and am looking to put about another 5-6k with that for a new (used - new to me) vehicle.

Now I was originally thinking a truck, but after talking to some buddies, and seeing people on here pimping Subarus out the ass, I've become interested.

I absolutely must have a car/truck/suv that can make it out of mud, trek through snow, and go through tough mountain passes. So 4WD is maybe needed?

Keep in mind, I really don't know shit about cars. Mine has around 145k miles on it now, and I'm planning on running this next one to 250k+ miles.

So, let's hear some recommendations...Teach me a bit about cars/what I need...What should I avoid...Can I even get a reliable car for 10k or under? This will be my first car I've bought, as the one I'm about to sell was given to me many, many years ago.

Toyota Tacoma/Tundra

Why would you buy American and have to live with an inferior vehicle? Long term reliability wise.

plus if a wave of tiny spiders invade your air ducts, and possibly making your gas tank rupture, they will actually fix it after you finished buying it with out fighting about it!

worked for Infiniti for a year, loved the QX4 (pathfinder), though only worth it with the 3.5L 240hp V6 engine. (2001+)
Ironically, someone told me the 4runners and pathfinders are based on the Izuzu rodeo platform (that comes with a GM engine ..)

Subaru's are great too, lower insurance quotes, AWD, a bit more fuel but worth it .. Id get a legacy GT, or a pathfinder with the 3.5L V6.

I remember that from the 90s because one of my friends dad drove an Isuzu Rodeo.

We also had another friend whose dad was a GM at a Honda dealership and drove a Passport. It was funny because our friend started to talk shit because his family drove Hondas. When he started to talk shit about Isuzus He got owned. We were like its the same vehicle! LOL

No offense to the USA you guys are great but your cars suck. Euro cars are best.
Gonna have to go with this guys comment man, German Engineering is the TITS! VW's and Audi's are where its at! You can get a hella decent audi, early 2000's for under 10k. You can even get a really nice Passat or older VW bug! :D

you want a good, fast, good gas mileage car?

if you don't need a sedan (4 door).. MHO.. would be to look into finding yourself a 1999 BMW M3 Sport Coupe, with the inline 3.4 (might be 3.2 I don't remember) 6cyl motor.. and a 5 speed transmission.

Those things are so fucking reliable.. its almost insane dude. I had a 'Techno Purple' (factory paint) '99 BMW M3 Sport Coupe. It had everything.. and when I say everything.. I mean everything. It had power windows; door locks; moon roof; 6 disc CD player mounted in the trunk; Information center; White leather seats, front and back with the colored M3 piping (stitching) in the seats; custom wheel/tire setup (19x10 in the rear; 19x8.5 in the front); Bilstein Nitro Shocks; blacked out windows all the way around.

The speedometer said 140.. and I (only once..) the car PAST 140.. and that was fast enough for me. I think I hit around 153MPH, once I hit that speed.. the car just wouldn't go any faster.

However, I had a 'Stage 1' single turbo kit installed at the BMW factory.. and while it helped with top speed a little bit (brought my tops speed up to 160mph) but it mainly helped with acceleration (which it was already fucking quick without the turbo kit).

After installing the Stage '1' turbo kit.. I had the car dyno tested to see what kind of power I was putting out. Here is the EXACT data from the dyno sheet.

Power: 459hp @ 14psi Torque: 367Ft/lbs
0 - 60 mph 4.36 seconds
0 - 100 mph 9.64 seconds
1/4 mile 12.209 @ 110mph

Now keep in mind, I had the boost turned all the way up to max.. as well as some other fine tuning done before the dyno test was ran. But those are the specs for the car.. with the boost turned all the way up. For around town driving, I keep the boost level @ 7.5psi, which keeps me in the 380HP range. If I take the car to 'cruise night' on the strip.. then I usually turn my boost up to 8.5psi, which gives me 398HP (400hp pretty much). Now, that may not sound like a lot.. but when you take a car, such as the BMW M3.. which is already as light as a feather.. and add that kind of power.. your going to pretty much have a bullet with wheels.

I wish I still had that car man.. I miss it. :|

Anyhow, if your looking for a good, sweet looking, reliable, good gas mileage car.. you might want too look for an M3 from BMW.

peace..
