i just sold my audi. it was a gas guzzler and needed oil ALL the time. turbo engines are high maintenence. I wouldnt get an audi unless it had a warranty and get rid of it befor ethe warranty ends.

So here's the situation, I will be selling off my old car here in the next 6 months and am expecting around 3-4k for it, and am looking to put about another 5-6k with that for a new (used - new to me) vehicle.

Now I was originally thinking a truck, but after talking to some buddies, and seeing people on here pimping Subarus out the ass, I've become interested.

I absolutely must have a car/truck/suv that can make it out of mud, trek through snow, and go through tough mountain passes. So 4WD is maybe needed?

Keep in mind, I really don't know shit about cars. Mine has around 145k miles on it now, and I'm planning on running this next one to 250k+ miles.

So, let's hear some recommendations...Teach me a bit about cars/what I need...What should I avoid...Can I even get a reliable car for 10k or under? This will be my first car I've bought, as the one I'm about to sell was given to me many, many years ago.
My $0.02. Between me, my wife and my mom we have had 5 Subarus. Worth every penny. Safe with the AWD. Dependable Japanese work ethic. Not bad on gas for an AWD. Excellent resale value. Replacement parts readily available and reasonably priced. Lots of aftermarket parts if thats your thing. My uncles have always bought Fords for our business because they're racist. Pieces of shit. Every single one breaks atleast once a year. My buddies dad works for VW-- He claims they are also pieces of shit. My brother had a Jeep and it was a gas guzzler-- the replacement parts are ridiculously over priced. I will definitely be getting another Subaru when we pay this one off. 1.9% financing helps too.

I had an a4. I didn't have relaibility problems because i bought it brand new and it was under warranty. i don't trust an old audi, i was happy to get rid of it before it ended warranty.

Why would you buy American and have to live with an inferior vehicle? Long term reliability wise.
Ford is very reliable. I've had two Expeditions, both were excellent vehicles, never a problem, not once. My Audi gave me slight problems, no big deal, my Mercedes has been a dream, and my Land Rover was total junk.

Granted I only hold onto a car for 3 years, but still.. I would say my current car ( Mercedes ML 550 AMG ) and the two Expeditions Ive owned are the top 3 best cars for me.

You can't really go wrong with a Ford.

lol, you sound like me. I've had about 6 cars, never had any for more than 3.5 years.

I'd say my Saab was the biggest piece of junk I've had. that thing always needed service!

Ford is mediocre at best. Although What Ford is producing for the past 2 or 3 years is starting to get better.
