Home Security Thread

My home? I live on 5 acres in the middle of nowhere.
My driveway has a 12ft tube gate with automatic lock and opener. When you drive up to my house in front of the gate, an underground sensore beeps in my house and scares the piss out of me and my many dogs. I know you are there.
There is a keypad for people with the code. For those visitng-- trying to convert me to mormonism or tweekers trying to sell me steaks - they have to press the intercom. That rings another box in my house. If I like you, I press open and a signal is sent to the gate. The dogs run out and follow you down the driveway.
Meanwhile, I have a networked DVR by APOSONIC that controls 8 Night vision bullet cameras set around my property and in my outbulding. It records and is viewable on my iphone or my laptops or through any browser. (I am a network engineer so don't try and tell me about security).
The Aposonic also has alarm inputs. Door sensor, window sensor, ground moisture sensor (for overflow rezervoir or sumthing) all hook into the DVR. If any alarm happens, I get EMAIL immediately about the alarm. For example, this morning the return tube on my ebb and flow popped out of my 55 gallon reservoir.... all my buckets emptied to the floor... and Email woke me up and I fixed it.

A mossber persuader/cruiser pistol grip shotgun also helps me let off steam and blow peoples' legs off if I need to. A black lab is sweet to me, while the chow and pitbull take care of inside/outside security.

THere must be more..... but enough for now.

I love to be secure :)

did I mention the cameras see at night?

I see everything.

oh, and a red cedar hot tub sunken into my wood deck helps me relax.

Hire a couple of homeless guys and dress them like TSA agents to frisk everyone entering and leaving your home. People will stay away.

Wow, the zoom cam sounds really great... I could see across to my neighbors' house with that... I could zoom in on their confederate flag (yes, Dixie), but I'd rather just imagine what life is like on the other side of the hill :)

I wouldn't fuck with my girlfriend or my dogs, either.. They are not afraid to die, which makes 'em crazy.

That machine gun looks great. My friend here in usa has a bunch of fully automatic machine guns of all types that he has amassed over the years. As long as you are not a felon, and you pay the fees for background checks, and the license itself, you may collect machine guns like Rambo or the Terminator... crazy

It would be like my favorite movie goodfellas.. , "That was it. No more letters from truant officers. No more letters from school. In fact, no more letters from anybody. Finally after a couple of weeks, my mother went to the post office and complain."

In UK you can apply for a gun licence, for hunting/tartget shooting but there are stupid rules... Like your gun and your ammo have to be on 2 different floors idealy... Ammo has to be locked away in a safe at all times and a few others... Its not really worth the hassle for all you can use it for... Its not like you can shoot anyone breaking into your house as you would still go down for it...

I live in an urban area and grow for personal use. To be clear, I don't protect my crop. I protect my castle and family from murderers and rapists. That being said, my home security includes: automatic security porch lights, kick-in resistant security doors with peep hole, fence that's always locked, Hi-Point 4595TS .45 ACP carbine with tactical light, pepper spray by the door and on my person, watchful neighbors, and good old common sense. Once I get more money saved up I would love to add a S&W M&P pistol and a Remington 870 20 gauge shotgun. Wish I had a video surveillance system, but the wife so far isn't going for it. :(

What do they talk about on the news? The shootings take the first 7 min of the news here.

having installed cctv systems for over 20 yrs, I can tell you that a camera system is only of limited use.you need to be watching the monitor 24/7 to stop a crime and video of the crime after the fact will only help if you know the thief or have already caught them & use the video as evidence. I have pulled video from a few hundred roberies and never heard of a single arrest unless the suspect was already caught or someone could id them from the picture.

anyone w/ a monitered alarm system should read this

Have you tried glock before? They are one hell of a pistol!! You dont have to maintain it ever and it will always fire no matter what!!! Mine kicks ass, i want to save up some money to buy the extra slide for my glock 21 that will convert it to a .50 GI!! PRetty nice round for home defense, nothing else... I use mine when i go boar hunting or jack rabbit shooting... that remington 870 tactical is my preference, but any 870 is badass!!!! i would go with the 12. guage though, bigger rounds and bigger buck shots, i use 00 buckshot and 2 3/4 inch slugs in mine all the time and i have right next to my dresser at arms reach.. S&W are also some really good firearms, but if you like quality, but cant afford to pay top dollar, i would go with a Sig Saur, it is becoming very popular with the C.I.A, and other gov agencies world wide as a highly reliable weapon of choice, and last i checked at academy if you have one in your area, it was selling for 340 bucks, but it was 9mm.. I want to get one for my girlfriend for her apartment, but once i get the cash
