Could you explain the Dollar Tree Hat, in all it's glory?
I get the idea of scrog and hormone distribution and the whole nine yards,
but where do you get this hat, and why do you choose it over a classic scrog?
Also how do you happen to fasten it?

That's a beautiful plant, nice and velvety.
(stoney, if i may...) the dollar tree hat has two main advantages. 1) it costs $1 (at the dollar tree store, hence the name), and 2) it comes with three chains removable chains, so it's like free chains. and i don't know about stoney, but i staked mine with regular bamboo stakes that i picked up pretty cheap. a little duct tape and 6 stakes around the pot, and you're set to go.

Well, if I were going to show up at a Dollar Tree, I certainly wouldn't get best results by asking them where they keep their hats.
So what do I ask for?

Lol, good point. They're supposed to be plant baskets to hang. They're by the plants section where they sell pots and such.

"Can I help you sir?"

"Um, yes....I was wondering if you knew where I could find a plant cap."

"A what?"

"You know one of those hat things you put over your plants!?"

Thank you kindly!!! Homer said it perfect, plus it keeps the plant rigid!! when i stuff my cabinet to the gills, it keeps from breaking branches off!!! this is all Homer's idea though... I just copied it!

Yeah wth is a dollar tree hat Stoney? haha the training looks great whatever it is.

(i'm plateauing off a good whip's worth of chocolate thai...nice)
you are too kind sir!!!!!!!!!!! I think the DT hat worked perfect on her... I think she would have given me more if the mites wouldn't have chewed all of her leaves!!! but you know me... it's all about the quality!!!! if there's not enough of it, well there is always another plant next week!!!! and that's it... I think i may try to buy chocolate thai seeds this weekend!!!! That is the second time you talked about that!!! who sells them?

WOW Stoney! That looks so tasty bro, stickier than molasses. And man that looks like an awesome harvest. Great work as always.
Thanks man, I really appreciate the kind words!!! she is sticky as goo!!! I gonna vape up some buds i "accidentally" snipped off when trimming. hehe

Now introducing a: Bubblelicious(nirvana), week 12 of flowering in a two gallon container, wearing a stylish 2011 model Dollar Tree hat!!

Nice Harvest Bro!

Those nugs are so frosty. That's some amazing resin production. Keep up the good work stoney. When you going to put your TD in? My clone hasn't shown roots yet.

Thanks Doc!!! Well I just put my TD in flower last night. There is a pic of her on the first post of this page. I didn't realize that the clone you have is a flowered clone and taken to save the DNA... I figured it would be better to grow them side by side when you and I both have more clones and when they are not the last plant we have of them!!! my second set haven't rooted yet but it has only been 6 days. My first clone is growing well though. I hope to have some nice cured buds from her for my B-day in september!!!!

Thanks man!! yea, those hats are just a way to LST a plant but also keep it strong and rigid, so when I'm rearranging them I don't break any branches. Plus it also limits it's height and I am confined on headroom, so it works well for me.

What are the stakes you chose to use on that "older plant"
And did you use the same things on the Bubblicious?

Hmm.
I've been doing math and such,
I want to build a cab thats 4' (48") tall.
Using a 12" tall flowerpot for final pot size (about 4g)
So that would give me 21" of total plant height.
Which means I need the plant to finish flowering at 21" exact.
This gives me like 8" of trimmed undergrowth, and 13" of bud / foliage.

So should I just start seedlings under the hat? Or wait until they are deemed worthy of wearing the hat?

And this would be a single plant grow.
I like dealing with one tree, instead of 4 little gals.

Oh and I've been watching your thread for a while now.
What's your total wattage nowadays?

They are metal posts with designs welded to them. I also bought them at the DT they were right next to the hanging baskets. It was purely an impulse buy!!! I have used a variety of things for stakes... arrows, filing cabnet folder organizers, chopsticks taped together. most of the time i just go out into the woods and find some straight sticks.

I have never started a clone out under the hat and let it grow into it.... that would work though. I normally just give it to the plants i feel are worthy of wearing it, like you said. A flat screen on top would probably work better for a more complete scrog... below is a photo that Grumpy Old Dreamer grew. I want to try this sometime soon.

and I agree, one big plant beats out four small ones anyday.... unless you like variety.

With my new LED's running, I am at about 280 total including both cabinets!!! I think my PC uses more power!!! hahahaha

I did not grow this.... it was grumpy old dreamers plant that he posted on my thread in another forum

Hell yea bro, my b-day in Nov. so I hope i have some too! Moving my friend killed me today I'm so tired and lights don't come on for another hour and a half. Going to go munch and maybe nap.

TD looks good, can't wait to see her in 3 weeks.

Hahaha do the metal stakes from DT fit the hat well? Or was there some improvisation required?

The tree I have right now is all natural, with only 3 lower branches removed.
After this I plan on doing the canopy thing.
I don't know if I'll use a formal cage or the hat, but I definately would rather have 20 small-medium sized colas over one fatty.

My gal is about two weeks flowering now, so excited.
