It is not her place to counsel her boss on discrimination i think they as managers have to take classes on the and interpesonal relations and if the didnt shame on them

Regardless of whether the dude has or hasn't taken any classes, he is human and humans make mistakes all the time. And I didn't say it was her place or even her duty to "counsel her boss," but OP said she likes this place and wants to work there. What do you think it would serve to get all incensed and threaten to sue or demand everyone else cover up so that she alienates herself and helps to create a hostile work environment? Think that will fix anything? All I'm saying is that a simple conversation could solve the problem. I don't understand the thinking that says it's better to immediately jump to the extreme response rather than at least trying to discuss the problem first.

Wierd cause tattoed people usually don't give a shit whether a person is tattoed or not......The Symbol goes all the way back before Christianity, Islam, Budhism...were even thought of...Its an old Pagan Symbol for the Divine Goddess or some shit. The swastika had been around thousands of years before it came to be associated with the Nazis. Would your opinion still be the same if she had a swastika tattoo? It doesn't matter that the symbol was used by other cultures. What matters is that 95% of people out there are going to immediately think "Satanist!" something that is guaranteed to offend people. Crosses aren't going to offend anybody. What if someone comes into this shelter to adopt an animal, sees that shit, then decides to take their business elsewhere? That is money out of the owner's pocket, which seeing as this is an animal shelter and they are seemingly always in need of money, is creating a big problem. Even if it is just one or two people at the job the bullshit that it induces between them will reduce everyone's productivity. I say the best and most painless option is to suck it up and cover it up, or get started on looking for another job. Or you know just the threat of legal action is enough to get most people to capitulate. I wouldn't want to actually sue the fucker, get involved in a long drawn out court case that proves and solves nothing.

She is a kennel tech and works in the health clinic. She doesn't deal with customers at all, so it's not going to hurt the business. Besides that, it's the size of a quarter on the back of her neck where it's covered up by her hair.

That's not really the point of it all though. Most people have no idea the pentagram can be a symbol for something other than satanism. It may be like a cross for a christian, but you have to have that knowledge first. She needs to tell her boss what it's about, and ask him why she needs to cover it up.

I don't think it would even come down to sueing them ever. Like I said she isn't trying to score some free money at someone else's expense. She loves the animals and loves helping them and loves working there. She just doesn't want to be singled out and told that she can't dress like anyone else there and isn't allowed to talk about things that anyone else is allowed to talk about.

sueing isnt' all about getting money, it's about making your point and showing someone that the way they treat people is not acceptable and that not everyone will sit back and allow that type of behavior. Who cares about the money? I care about the principle. I would be very pissed off if I can't have a anthiest tatoo while the person at hte desk over is wearing a cross and have jesus sayings in their email. Is this a religiously affiliated company? If so, that should have been made clear before offering the position. A company legally has to have a HR person who handles these types of matters. It's not that easy to sue, you have to have evidence. You have to lose your job and income. You have to have proof that you were fired because of your tattoo and no tbecause of your poor performance. If you have proof that people treated you diferently because of the way you looked, that's good too. Do you know anyone else with visible tattoos that you could speak to and see if they have gotten similar feedback?

there are only 3 employee's out of the 15 that don't have tattoo's. most of the tattoo's people have are either someone's name, a cross, bible versus'. Almost everyone has tattoo's that are visible and religious. but they feel that people not understand her religious point of view, so she is not supposed to discuss it or have anything showing pertaining to it. Which means she can't cut her hair (she was actually looking forward to doing that because she likes her hair short), and she can't wear shorts or kapri length pants because of the tattoo she has going down her entire leg. But the pants is more acceptable, because she is working with dogs and having full length pants does help prevent getting scratched and reduces the damage if she ever got bit.

Start documenting the incidents. You need solid proof of this otherwise a case might get thrown out. Try and see if the other person that isn't being forced to hide the tattoo would be willing to write a statement. A company has full right to tell you to cover up tattoos, but this is pretty clearly picking one tattoo over the other. I wouldn't get into altercations with my employer in this situation, matter of fact I would cover the tattoo after being warned and not argue. It should be all about building your case.

No it's not majority rules. That's why we have laws. That is religious discrimination and illegal. Tell her to threaten to go to the labor board about this issue. They'll back down.

Do you really believe the words you are saying? unless theres a contract a employer needs NO REASON whatsoever to fire someone. So lets say she raises hell and they seem to back down, next thing you know she's laid off/fired for whatever they want to come up with.

When it comes to women and tattoos, I'm of the opinion that less is definitely more.
