Animal Cruelty or Friendship?

My friend got a 2 year old german shepherd for his dinky 2 bedroom apartment. He goes to work all day and leaves the dog inside, walks it for 20mins each night and that is all the dog really sees in terms of exercise.

My question is, should I tell my friend he is being an asshole by locking his dog inside all day or leave it alone?

I knew someone who kept a Weimaraner in a similar setup. Poor creature went nuts and had to be put down. If I were you I'd gather up my courage and have words with this person.

As long as the dog has some weed to chill with and the best of reggae cd album playing the dog should be fine.

He's being an arsehole. A German Shepard is way too big for a two bedroom apartment and only twenty minutes of exercise. He needs a small dog like a Chihuahua.

hes being an ass, apartments are for bitchy lapdogs. any breeder, if reputable, would have checked this out prior, it is crule to keep a big dog in an apartment all day, walks are nothing they want to run

if the dog is not chewing up his apartment and misbehaving then he is fine....go to a shelter and look at the tens of millions of dogs who need homes and would gladly trade places with the german shepherd in a 1000 square foot apartment heated and air conditioned and gets fed daily and walked for their 4x4 cage and stacked side by side...you wanna do something to help a dog out..go adopt one in a shelter and stop judging your friend

He has had it for about 3 months now and when he takes it out he doesnt run properly either and the dogs back legs look kind of scrawny.

To me it just seems like a bigger cage.

I have four dogs...large breed. Believe me they got room to run.

The point is the guy is taking care of him. It could be far worse.

when you say "got" do we mean buy or adopt? (either way is paying except ones from a breeder the other a pound)

At the very least that dog should be running in order to blow off steam. I had a mongrel, about the same size as a staff, in a one bed flat, but I was always there with her and when I took her out I would make her run like her arse was on fire. She was fit as fuck. I also had the downstairs flat, so I had access to the back yard.
