i WANTED to get some afropip's malawi gold, and watched for about 4 months waiting to see when it's be back in stock before finding out he's no longer on this plane. +REP in peace afropips! your gear was legendary! i got a PM in another forum years ago warning me against seedsman's malawi and in general, see terrible results with IBLs like there's a conspiracy to eradicate them. BC bud depot has burmese, but they have a super sketchy rep as a bank that makes it hard to trust their gear even through attitude

destroyer isn't as good as it sounds on paper from all i've read. i lost interest in that years ago after several tepid reviews.

i have had some gear that's close to gold in THC profile and even STRONGER at that (high quality seeds haze x skunk) but it's more motivational & euphoric and less visual than gold. it's not shabby and beats pretty much everything i've tried since except maybe one unknown bud i blazed that HAD that hard to describe "wheaty green" taste gold had and that smoked very similarly too that i was unable to purchase or get a name for.

i really need to test 8 miles high further. that might be the closest thing i've tried at least in THC profile if not potency. i seem to recall a little bit of lightness to it (zero couchlock maybe where more potent haze skunk has traces of Sk#1 lead eye still) and it really like music & dancing and i DID get feelings of really precise body control on it that could have been lighter at a higher dosage and later in flowering.

i DON'T want actual IBLs if they can be avoided, just something besides hazes which have some more clearheaded & euphoria traits of panama red.

i've also tried to grow some sativa seeds' full moon (highland thai) which totally lived up to IBLs' "don't even TRY to grow them indoors" rep, but if i had an outdoors space, would totally give them another try as they definitely had that juicy fruit tittu fruity flavor that's awesome. i cut them down after fighting with a couple "gals" (feckin' TRANNIES!!!) that i cut down right at the start of flowering only to be annoyed by an almost pure indica couchlock buzz. i don't know if it was because i was mostly smoking older growth or that my gals were light starved under 400w or even just pissed at 3 gallons to root in, but am sticking with the better results i've gotten from indoor doable gear.

i don't think it's my chemistry that's changed. it's just that indicas have polluted the genepool so much and the trippiest strains are the most extinct in pure form from LEGIT banks or breeders...

i don't know of any place you can get a good pure durban poison either. i think dutch passion is the only other bank that has it, and i avoid dutch breeders

hazes are better than nothing, but just don't have the same heighten your senses effect. if there's ANYTHING affecting the buzz in my chemistry, it's that i don't take deep woofing lung buster hits anymore. maybe haze skunk IS trippier than it seems and i'm just not taking deep enough hits to get them & taking smaller sips. i bet the trippier effects (that also induced the dreaded room spins & paranoia that were TOTALLY not agreeing with one of my host's playing annoying as fuck guitar hero and heavy metal which i despise even MORE than couchlock) were from clearing a 2 foot or more chamber where i pull air with bowl hits these days.

Good luck I'll keep up watching your thread because Im looking for the same effects I believe. I've never had the old gold stuff you mentioned (I'm only 31) but I've been smoking for over 15 years, grown a few times, and been to amsterdam/Europe 6 times so Im kind of experienced.

oh i WISH i could properly grow out my highland thai full moon beans! i've heard the definitely live up to the trippy rep and can say 1st hand that the tutti fruity odor when panfrying is EROTIC! even though i imagine it's a little stoney, i think i'm still going to try some fruity thai based on a favorable smoke report and see if that is the "ideal" cross with really nice & grapey short stuff super cali haze. grape & juicy fruit sounds like a perfect flavor match. i REALLY wish i could get my hands on some PURE black cherry soda for an SCH cross. grapes & cherry would be nice. then again, my "tart cherry" G13 haze x buddha's sister might do nice in the flavor department in a cross if not keep couchlock out of the picture, but soda probably has stone too.

the sweet skunk doesn't sound like my kind of bud as i just don't like skunk #1. it has couchlock and once it starts building up in your system it starts getting really stoney & i'd expect any skunk strain to share in that. even at just 12.5% afghani, high quality seeds' haze x skunk STILL has constant lead eye going on, but the IBL motivation & psychoactivity finally shine through. skunk #1 smokes more like 75% than 25% indica to me.

thanks for all of the replies everyone. you can bet i'll share my experience with anything new i try. i'm REALLY psyched to see how my C99 x SCH cross turned out. i'd hope that it keeps the SCH psychoactivity and flavor, but becomes faster & shorter as JW's cindy is a 45 day speed racer.

i don't think i'll be getting dr. grinspoon any time soon. it sounds too big & fussy and C99 does the "happy speedy" thing in half the time. speedy sativas aren't my favorites either. they're a blast for activities, but a more balanced one like columbian gold, haze skunk or 8 miles high is much easier to chill out to tunes on where C99 is restless. barney's coolest sounding strain to me is his laughing buddha which i'm pretty sure would agree with me more than TGA's euphoric but stoney jillybean. if you're interested in a sweet skunk, try jillybean. that strain will definitely deliver the goods with it's romulan, skunk & C99 genetics. i draw the line at couchlock. i want NOTHING to do with it EVER.

Mozambique Poison was a pretty nice sativa i got to sample. nice taste for sure but fluffy airy buds.

ain't NUTHIN' wrong with light & fluffy! in fact, i prefer it that way... so much easier to break apart with your fingers, just like my favorite of all time, columbian gold. i reallt think indicas have altered people's perception of what "potent" is as i defy anyone to call pure gold weak after 4 coughing one hitters that make the room start spinning! LOL

i'll take quality over quantity every time.

got some vietnamese sativa seeds here, came from bud i got there last year, absolutely no couchlock (which im so used to, it took me awhile to appreciate the high of this)

straight up high with trippy visuals to boot. even though the bag i got was mostly leaves with the odd stem and tiny bud thrown in. (also bit weaker than what im used to, because of that, still impressive ,me only needing to smoke 1-2 bowls more than usual, despite being smoking mostly leaves)

saw the plants too, 7 feet tall with tiny tiny long buds.

lousy germ rate, 30 seeds and got one male lol, wasnt too difficult to handle and grew much nicer than the plants i saw in vietnam (tiny pots with shitty clay soil)
got 20-30 seeds left though so hey maybe later.

vietnamese & cambodian strains just might be the trippiest in the world. cannabible sure makes delta 9 labs cambodian x cambodian sound super trippy, but good luck trying to get it to even pop and vietnamese blackseed is a legendary strain for sure.

i bet there's even better gear hiding out deep in the jungles and you just scored "tourist weed", but that doesn't make me any less jealous that you smoked a true IBL. if i had RARE gear like that, i'd try and preserve & improve it.

with a little work, i bet that strain could be improved with some modern genetics like C99 to speed it up & raise the resin count without adding afghani couchlock & funk, but i bet it would tune out some of the afghani in a haze too as well as add a little bit of hybrid vigor as it's a distinct IBL.

maybe you might want to send a few beans to a breeder that does legit IBLs like world of seeds or ace. i'd love to see your gear on the market and if i knew it was real & well bred by whoever, would buy some myself as IBLs are soooo rare.

I read that the Gold was cured by pinching the stem and bending the plant over. Then they just waited until it turned that golden color.
As for soil - in Hawaii all of the fruit and veggies grow better because of the volcanic soil. Makes me wonder if it would be good to grow in crushed lava rocks. Red or Black lava?

yeah... the technique is called "girdling" by either tying a string around the stem really tightly or cutting it around the outside to stop the flow of nutrients and make the green chlorophyll degrade although i keep seeing other sources attributing the name to the pistils.

all i know for sure is that REAL columbian gold smells like pinecones. the stuff i was getting was more of a pale green, but it wasn't sold as gold so it wasn't girdled.

well, thats why ive been taking my time with the rest of the seeds, read up bit first but, since my wife is vietnamese and ill go back there sooner or later, im not too worried, but yeah, if i turn out to have gotten something great, i´ll be sure to share it

yeah..took me awhile to appreciate it, there was the familiar mj feeling, but different and no couchlock, lol kept on smoking and smoking to reach it, got high as fuck in the end lol.
later on (was there 3 months) i started to appreciate it more and smoked it just like normally id smoke the regular hybrids here..

was pretty great making music on it and the nice thing was, it was equally nice to move about as to sit still (got really comfy after awhile)
the hugest difference was this though, you didnt smoke a puff or 2 before bed, you stopped smoking about an hour or 2 BEFORE bed and just by the time you went to bed, you started to get heavily tired in a comfortable way. pretty neat weed.

i hope i find a good way to grow it indoors, id like to have this as a regular daytime smoke.

I have grown Brainstorm X G13 for the past year, And 14 weeks is the predicted flowering time, but i once cut them at 11 weeks and gave them to my brother after finding a keeper pheno, at 11 weeks they are some of the most mind expanding and powerful head highs id ever smoked with almost tingly body sensation and electric buzz totally creative and giggly, i harvest her at 13 weeks for myself and they give a much more potent indica body stone but with all the power of the sativa high keeping you flying. i got a keeper out of 5 seeds, which is all i could as for.
it can yield serious yields at 14 weeks, especially outdoors.

also, this strain can be reaallly creepy if you harvest it late with the indica effects taking effect but they arent hindering so much as a little too soothing and relaxing, like being enveloped in cloudy dreamstate.

trust me... i've been trying to get back to "columbia" as soon as it got replaced by indicas around 1987! i've read every smoke report i can find just about and begged & pleaded for DETAILED smoke reports all the way back to when overgrow was around and REFUSED to accept "trust me" recommendations for A11 & SSH until someone started using effing adjectives which no one there was able to do. grass city sucks like that too as it's more of a weed porn site... lot's of pics & talk about nute levels, but no effing happy endings.

starting out on gold made me a total pot snob for sure! i actually wanted my money back when i "scored" maybe 3 grams of 2 different early indies for just $8 after gold disappeared and indoors took over. my contempt for couchlock has only grown over the years as in parts of NY at least, you can't get anything that gets you the least bit high ANYWHERE! i know what i like... getting high!

even though it gave me dry heaves and i can't stand the taste of licorice, i was way happy when i was GIFTED a gram of durban poison in the late 90s for FINALLY getting high again although it seemed milder than gold, but then again, i tried not to smoke it all in one sitting. a few months later when i was gifted a gram of delicious crushed red pepper tasting, so energetic i couldn't chill on tunes & instead cleaned house grinning from ear to ear, ORIGINAL kali mist (haven't tried it with the extra 12.5% indica in it now) and was so jazzed about that i bid my way up to $120 for AN EIGTH before giving up in disgust at not being able to score some weight.

i've pissed so many indica lovers & cash crappers off at overgrow and grasscity, but feel a lot more at home here where so many are growing hazes etc. and love that people here know how to do an effing smoke report. gee... i thought there was a freakin' reason for learning the english language! it's nice to be some place where i feel i have at least a few peers who like superior gear. i'm all about quality over quantity. one of the first things i wanted to do when i started studying growing was grow thai (didn't know then the thai i was smoking was really gold) and just give buds away to stick it to all the growers that piss me off and wake people back up out of their hash slumber to a better buzz like when al the villagers get pissed at the end of frankenstein and turn on their greedy oppressors. LOL

i could happily smoke nothing but haze x skunk (HQS), 8 miles high or super cali haze if i were on a desert island no prob. they're all about 35 million times better than quaalude street weed, but columbian gold was just better. the 80s were better too, especially the music. i'd still like to find superior THC profiles and try to preserve what's left of the good stuff.

i HAD a dream cross a few years back that went something like
burmese x (C99 x malawi gold) before i actually got to sample C99 as, after literally TWO YEARS of trying to get real lowdowns on that & A11, SSH & jack herer etc., thinking C99 had to be trippy if it had a rep as being paranoid. i like C99 just fine for activities... it's very much like cali mist except in flavor, but joey weed's version is just clear headed racy motivation & euphoria. i think i actually might have liked A11 better (i have JW C99 x A11s) for it's higher psychoactivity & mellower buzz, but avoided it & super silver because of their VAGUE reports of couchlock. i just can't stand anything afghani in the weed department anyways. i hate couchlock, don't see any reason a bud should stink (other than to try and push THAT & red hairs or sticky bud when sativas dried up) and don't like sticky fingers or buds so dense you can't break them apart with your fingers.

columbian gold just had a really fun way of heightening reality in every way. i've had better jerk off sessions than a lot of lays on gold. LOL

until i try something better, HQS' haze x skunk is my favorite buzz. i have to breed out that annoying cigar wrapper taste though. don't get me started on blunts & tobacco! i've got effing issues man!

here's to hoping some day i have more bud than i can smoke so i can give it away and watch peeps grin from ear to ear on stuff grown with nothing but love.
