Ok so I have a question for the people who have grown and grown and grown and grown grown and grown and grown and grown grown and grown and grown and grown....

Q#1.) Is it possible to let a plant mature too long before flowering?
Q#2.) Is it true it takes 48 days to mature a marijuana plant from seed?

 Thanks!

I haven't grown all that much but:
#1) nope, a plant will last 5+ years before it starts to die off
#2) a plant is a seedling for 2 weeks, then it usually shows sex AROUND 30 days after those two weeks. It could take longer, or they might not show sex at all. They are mature when they show sex though.

Q1. As others have said you can keep the same plant around for a long time if you use things like BONSAI techniques etc. Other than that you can keep the genetics going by taking some FIRST GENERATION clones from the original plant and using these as mothers etc. Which with the right system can see you keep the genetics going from 1 seed for around 20years or longer as long as space isnt an issue. Its all about how many FIRST and SECOND GENERATION clones you take to grow on as mothers.

Q2.a. It all depends what you mean by 48 days to mature a plant. If you mean flowering and it being mature enough to harvest then there are alot of other variables that need to be in place for this to happen. STRAIN CHOICE, ENVIRONMENT, TECHNIQUES among a few others.

Q2.b. If you mean for a plant to reach maturity during Vegging then 48days is a little bit long for a vegging plant to be mature enough, I class maturity in a plant when the nodes begin to alternate. This usually happens around day 30 of vegging.

you say some of the most ignorant things Nusky. the op asked for answers from veteran growers and you come on right away and start your response with "I haven't grown much at all but:" honestly dude, people come here for REAL answers and i have seen you screw them with wrong answers time after time. i've been observing this for quite some time and brother you are really starting to piss me off.

I was correct on both answers. Other people have backed me up too. I may be wrong sometimes, but generally I am correct.

You can have a plant in veg for as long as you want, I've never done it, but I have heard and seen of plants being more than 5 years old in veg.

If you're going to say I'm wrong, provide links, because I only talk about what I know and have heard from others on this forum. If I don't know first hand I will state so.

ok well... I guess i could rephrase it..how long does it take for a pot seed in veg state to become mature? atleast a month? or is it a foot and a half? generally?

Wait, are you looking for veteran grower, or high post count. A veteran grower will tell you anywhere from 3 weeks and up. Alot of variable from strain to grow set up (medium, lights, temp... Yadda yadda) will determine growth, health of the plant which in turn determines maturity level. Now if your looking for a quick answer, 6 weeks from sprout, four weeks from first node.

It's all relative. I grow 12/12 from seed. The plants usually veg for 2-3 weeks before showing any signs of flowering. Sativas generally veg longer and will get larger than indicas, which flower very quickly under the 12/12 schedule.

it's true about the alternating node thing. in the normal life cycle outdoors, that's the natural progression.
mb it takes 30+ days to mature but you can flip anytime up to and including germination, you can also reveg even after flowering and you can get great product if you know what you're doing. here's midnight kush i'm revegging after 8 weeks of flowering. basically i'm too broke to buy more seeds.

(Re-vegging)

hahah thats the round leaves people speak of when re-vegging!!! I feel hi-jacked but, that's really awesome dude! how is it doing as i type(actually as you read)? hope this found you well. if you get any seeds send em our way lol! i cant remember what I read on maturity especially growing from bag seeds anyway. we dont know if this is kush or mid. we were given seeds that were saved up from mid grade and kush so idk. this is what pisses us off ---> the leaves are real narrow and pointy but jagged like indica.there edges are not as round like sativa leaves are supposed to be.

Wow alot of good answers here...my question is then....I know you can go 12/12 straight from seeds and have done it before but under that regimen when is it mature? My relative answer to myself would have to be agreeing with suTRAgrow when you see preflowers.....this is what I was taught so it is really the only thing I have to go on, I am speaking with 7 yrs of experience
