Make sure to get clean sterilised verm with no additives if you go the nursery way.
They sometimes sell verm with added stuff. I was quite lucky recently and scored a feedbag worth of verm for free from someone who used to have a small verm factory....
I saw this strange sifting machine and asked him what it was... it was then he told me he used to make vermiculite, and then took me to his stockpile of bags :)

just go to home depot or local gardening store....
The vermiculite at my local Home Depot and gardening center have only fine grade vermiculite. I'm sure its the same for Desr too.

If you have an agricultural coop they might be able toget you some even if you might have to take a large bag.

Fine is just fine dude. Preffered even. Myc will colonize it easier. Just be sure you dont pack it in the jar. Spoon it in the jar slowly so it doesnt compact. Also dont forget your DRY verm layer on top. When fully colonized, simply tapping the jar upside down on the counter will free the colonized cake from the jar.

Oh I have never had trouble taking out the colonized cake from a jar using fine verm. Do you compact it in the jars like dankillerbs said?

well ive had to break jars in the past because the cakes wont slide out..
the you are adding too much water or are not useing proper widemouth jars (actualy

i prefer useing whiskey glasses because they colonise faster than a jar.
