Drying my Sour Diesel right now! Woot!

Cut down a few of my Sour Diesel, they are currently drying in my closet. Once all of the plants are cut they will all be dried in the grow room where I can control the humidity and heat levels. But for now, the relatively humidity is 63% in the closet with a strong ceiling fan on outside in the main room. You guys think they will be fine in there?

Go to the indoor growing section, you will see a few bud shots form about a week ago. Will post harvest pics once most are chopped and are hanging in the grow room.

See, that is the thing... I am trying to figure out weather or not I can take down a few each day and put em in my closet, while leaving the other ones going (not many amber glands just yet, though I've read varying information on that with regards to harvest time) I am tossing that idea around (leaving some of them going for another 4-5 days) or I am also thinking about just chopping all of them tomorrow and hanging them in the grow room (this would mean the ones in the closet were there for either 24 hours or 48 hours)

If 63% humidity is putting me at risk, I am going to go ahead and chop them all tomorrow and hang in the grow room.

Think I've decided all of them are coming down tomorrow. The glands are quite cloudy, some beginning to appear amber. Can't wait to get home from work for my first ever harvest of a decent sized grow!

Took them all down (pictures to come shortly!) They got taken down Monday night, with the exception of two plants that came down Saturday. Those two have now been trimmed off the buds, and trimmed...then put back into the drying room on a window screen for the next 24 hours, then they will be cured. The buds should be mostly pretty damn dry before being put into jars for curing right? Any advice appreciated.

Also wanted to add... I feel like they are kind of losing their sense of smell a little bit ...I know this happens with fast drying, but it shouldnt with the slow but steady method right? I mean when you squeeze them they reak, but just not as much..does that smell come back during the cure or whats the deal on that one?

Yes, if there is too much moisture, mold will grow. Make sure when you first put them in jars, you open them at least once a day to let the gases escape and to let in some oxygen. Keep them in a dark, cool place to cure. I would open the jars once a day for about 3-5 days. Then open them 2 times a week for 2 weeks. Then once a month after that depending on how big of a stash you have!

I was thinking I would use grocery paper bags laid down the long way, and put an inch or two of bud on the bottom... maybe a zip or zip and a half in there? Do the same proccess you just described but in bags. Seems to be easier when you are dealing with a pound + or herb than using jars..... unless you know of cheap big jars that I could put a zip or so into each one? I am guessing you would do two-three inches of herb (loosely packed) per jar?

Mr I Can Do That For Half
Well keeping them in bags the whole time will over dry the buds. The jars are used for curing after the intial dry.You can also use air tight tupperware containers but glass is best as no possible taste transfer to buds.Go to a canning store or even alot of grocery stores where the preserves ar.Jars with lids about buck or 2 buy a box good to have on hand.

I am not completely closed minded to using jars, but it seems a tad unpracticle to use an ass load of jars when you have over a pound. bongsmilie

How much can you put into each jar? I figured only a half zip or so, several inches...? If I get like a 24 ounce yield, that's 58 jars... would look super nice, but seems a tad much to me. Any other advice is highly appreciated.

You can fill up the jars, just don't stuff the buds in there. Keep it loose. If you find big enough jars, you could fit more than an OZ in each one.

Hey green nobody, those links did not go to where specified. They just took you to home depot.

yeah, home depot links never work.

anyhow, plastic sucks the THC in. glass doesn't. if you need to store your personal stash/protect stuff you're going to sell...then glass is the only way.

Okay, I am sold on the jars, now I just have to get them

I have noticed that of the bud that I already trimmed (at first we got each plant into like four to five branches) and this bud dried a bit quicker. I am noticing that it needs to be squeezed a tad to get that great smell out. Did I do something wrong? I have my relative humidity at like 52%... and it just kinda smells a *tad* like hay to me before squeezing it.

Will the smell really come out during the cure? I guess if you think about it, most of the time a jar really stinks and smells yummy as fuck is when buds have been sitting in it for a little while gathering up all that yummy smell.

Should I be worried? Most of the plants were hung in their entirety, so those should dry a tad slower (and keep the smell more)

Yes the smell comes out with the cure.

I had the hay smell too. Also you can use paper bags to dry the bud, before putting it into glass jars.

Don't put wet bud into the jars. Curing will bring out the aroma and flavor, over days and weeks.
