I have been on my own since 16, my mom and dad still live in my area but I have just recently started mending my relationship with my dad. I went without insurance from 16-19. I dropped out of high school to work full time. I went back to school in the winter while layed off from construction, but couldn't collect unemployment while going to school full time. I wasn't elegable for financial aid because I was still considered a dependent of my parents till age 25. I worked 2 jobs went to school full time and was able to pull off my AA. Like I said before I still work 2 jobs just to pay my bills and am still looking to go back for my bachelors. If you want healthcare work harder and earn it.....

forgot to add that I am a cali medical marijuana patient. I aquired my medical card after being Hit/ran over by a truck with no insurance... I still am making monthly payments from that. will go up. In canada minium wage is 8$ per hour , thats $ 320 per wk. after taxes take home 280. I've had 3 hip replacements, 2 shoulder ops, 1 knee op, append. op , tonsil op & 2 minor ops, guess what I paid ? 00000 If I was in the states I'd be living on the street by now. Here's the deal with universal health care. First, yeah, you'll likely pay a little more in taxes, But, and this is a big but, You'll not have any insurance premiums or co-pays. It would probably balance out if you took the big xcorporations out of it and had not for profit health care, the only way to fly. Why should coporations be making profit on your illness? Most of the paid people in health care would retain their positions, just the greedy stockholders and CEOs would be out. Insurance employees could transfer to the government health care and have a lot better perks.
This system works remarkably well in many countries accross the globe, in fact we are the only 1st world country without universal health care of some kind. Proof of citizenship should be required for treatments. No sneaking accross the border for treatments.
The main people against this are high paid execs in the insurance industry or the HMOs, Doctors that don't understand the benefits, (See hippocratic oath), and rich right wing assholes that basically hate humanity and think everyone is trying to get their money, (See ViRedd).

I remember seeing 4 specalists for the same thing. I pick my hospital, my Dr. No penny pinching HMO tells us what or where to go . Yes I had to wait a whole 4 months for surg. Personally I don't want to pay for someone else's healthcare... I already work to pay for my own... and THEN some! Most states already have programs in place to pay for the most needy. I work... $89.00 a month, plus a low deductible, (mine is $25.00 per visit), plus $5 prescriptions, for a 30 yr male. If you don't want to pay for insurance, don't complain when you get your big bill. Shut the fuck up, stiff the provider, and go get a $8.00 six pack of brewskies and enjoy, on us.

I guess you really don't know much. 1st my SS check gets deposited in my bank account every month on the same day of the month like clockwork. I have no complaints. If the congress and the executive branch would have left the SS trust fund be, There would be enough money in there for your grandkids-grandkids and then some. They raid the fund yearly and put the money in the general fund with an IOU, sorry charlie, but that IOU is worthless as shit on a stick. Don't get me wrong, I hate big government and as I've said, my only use for them is my SS and medicare, as far as I'm concerned, they can kiss my rosy red ass. They are obviously doing the bidding of the corporations, and that is exactly why we don't have universal health care, although it may be why you have a job.
