Why does this thread have to come up today? I had to put my dog down today. Also the radio i was listening at work today was talking movies where dogs die, and it made me think about my ill ol dog. She had a bunch of tumors on her neck and chest that we had removed, Unfortunatly the tumors had roots at they fucked up ability to eat and drink. I loved her so much we were hand feeding her and watering her by hand because she couldn't swallow oh her own when bending over to drink. So we would water her with a big size plastic syringe...it was really sad she got really skinny. Now she's wasn't eating anymore.
I've put 5 animals down in the last 5 years. I don't think I'll get animals even again. All my pets got old and died at the same time. Now I have one middle aged bassist hound left...and he's all by himself now. I feel really bad for him too..

I used to love dogs until I met my wife's family's dogs. Since then I've been turned off and found a love for cats. But I still would like to get a Border Collie or a German Shepherd someday.

My cats help with my garden by killing moles.cats are pretty good at that too,many mammals and some birds too.
plenty of species really.
there is even this spider that scientists consider sentient lol (its constantly inventing new ways to hunt along with its rather long repertoire of tricks)
cats and dogs though and perhaps particularily dogs have a much more longstanding relationship with humans, so we have become pretty close, pretty much a symbiotic relationship.
though we dont "need" them as much, it sure would be a sucky world without them
