There is a little thing called the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty that Iran is a signatory of stating that they will not seek nuclear weaponry. If they are in fact building, or attempting to build nuclear weaponry they are in violation of a treaty.
So it is not a case of the U.S. dictating who can or cannot have nuclear weapons. There are 189 states-parties are classified in two categories: nuclear-weapon states (NWS)consisting of the United States, Russia, China, France, and the United Kingdomand non-nuclear-weapon states make up the rest of the signatories and they pledged to forgo developing or acquiring nuclear weapons. If Iran wants nukes, all they have to do is what North Korea did in 2003, withdraw from the treaty. But Iran has not withdrawn from the treaty.
How do you trust a nation that hides behind a treaty as they break it?

No nation has any right to dictate or order or demand what any other nation does in international waters near it.
You say the U.S. would never tolerate carriers off our shores, as if they would be in U.S. waters and not in international waters where we have no right to say who can be there. But what about all the Russian, and possibly other nations, nuclear attack submarines that are known to cruise the waters just outside of U.S. territorial waters? I'd rather have aircraft carries offshore than nuclear attack submarines, but the submarines are there, and have been for decades, and you do not see/hear the U.S. demand their removal, do you?

We prosecute those subs with our S3B Viking aircraft, And p3 orions. We make it very uncomfortable for them if they show up nearby. It would be a provocation we are not in the cold war at the moment. IF IRan carried through with their threat and brought a military ship just outside of our waters I guarantee it would be sunk. By the way I dont believe Iran made that threat, simply more pre invasion propaganda.

The international water line is 1-2 miles ( i forget) outside of a countries territory. This is recognized by the UN as a standard marker. We would certainly not attack any iranian ship that stayed outside of that.
This is the equivalent of a country like Cuba threatening to close down the Panama Canal.
