Concerning the NLB from a grow standpoint, as I have not harvested it yet, in soil it has been fantastic. I have not had one issue from it from the time that they were received as a gift from a fellow member on here as a clone back in mid November. They are currently on Day 23 of flower out of the recommended 53 to 63 day period.

I just bought all that equipment I mentioned from the HTG supply store.

6" Inline fan
25 foot 6" ducting
fan speec controller
Big Kahuna Hood
Pair of light hangers
and 2 more 5 Gal buckets.

One I get my tent in, and have it setup, I will then make the decision on whether or not my tent can fit / need one with that enormous hood. I also have 5 Auto Roadrunner #2's and a Virtigo Automatic germinating.

What a difference a day makes
Here are (2) pics of my RCB's on January 10th


Yesterday I did a res change ... Ph was at 5.6, and the only thing that I added to the H2O was a dash of "No Shock". The girls were under a 150 MH Bulb that was 30 inches above the tops, temps were 81.3F with 31% Humidity. That was at 8:00 EST. When I got here with a friend, we went into the room and I was taken aback in the worst way. My friend who is a more experienced grower than I, suggested to change out again, using only water. So we did using straight H2) with a ph of 5.6. This morning when I checked on them at 7:00 AM EST, this is what they looked like ....


I cannot put my finger on what caused this. No idea. I just took the dead tops off ( I am a lot disappointed, and do not know if this was a good idea), but in what I have read, I need what is left of each plant, to focus now on just getting something going. The root system looks like this ...


Question: Am I just wasting my time in hoping that "They will catch?", or should I just bury them at this point? ... Your call ....

imho they are dead.

it looks like heat to me, they cooked.. what is the temp of the water? after its been sitting under the light and with the pump just turned off? your water temps may have risen wich would burn your plants from the roots.. its kinda sciency for this early BUT plants are typically 20 degrees hotter on the inside than the ambient temp outside. sooo, if you outside temps are mid 80's and your bubble water at 80's (or worse, easily worse, with a black pot holding water and a motor (pump) generating heat, also the air pump is pulling in hot air) they are cooking and have no way to cool down..

sorry for the trajedy, bury them quietly and don't let the other girls see!

Thanks Cerberus Now that you say it, (although I do not know for sure, since I did not get the water temp), they appeared to look like cooked spinach. Makes sense.

Lesson Learned the hard way .... But ... I have made a "Royal Decision".... For the first year, I will set aside any hydro, and go with soil. There is a reason why everyone states, that soil is more forgiving than any other method. I guess I was just trying to stay "Modern", but until I get my feet firmly "Planted" on the "Ground" ... Soil is the way for me. At least for now

Sorry for your loss Maineyankee. I don't know what NO SHOCK is. Is this a regular add in for you? I used to do the hydro thing and have gone to Aurora roots soil and other organic add ins. I don't think I'll ever grow hydro again.

Thanks Chad It was suggested to me by Mike at Grass Root Grower in Augusta. I have had great luck in the 2 instances that I used it, with no issues at all, so I dod not think it was that. As Cerberus stated earlier, and once I realized what he stated, it made sense to me that the water was just too hot. In turn, they "Cooked".

It is all a learning curve for me at this point. There will be wins and losses along the way. The only sad part to my feeling bad about the entire ordeal, is that they (as well as other instances where they just did "not take" (being all Clones), that they were "gifts" from some of the best people who I have met on my Journey. I feel as though I have "let them down". I know different, but that is how I feel from my heart.

I'd concur with Cerb. Too much heat. The water temp in the black pot would likely have been warmer than the air.

Also, in my experience rooting a clone doesn't require a great deal of light. i root my clones with a T5 and even they stay off to the side, not directly under the reflector. I haven't taken a shit-ton of clones in my life but i have an 80% success rate with this method.

Thanks MB. I know what you mean. Since this past weekend, I have built a separate cloning station that is using only a 2' Fluorescent Bulb. I just checked them out and they are showing signs of progress with this new section of my garden.

I'm so sorry about your babies Bob, I know how much it hurts. Especially when they are given as a gift, I'd feel exactly the same way. I went in to my room & told a couple of my stronger girls & they are holding a small memorial for your babies. I was going to go hydro for the first grow,m and got talked out of it thankfully. Your clones are looking great!

how many 400's do you run in your flowering room? i was thinking of doing a little combo set-up with 600's and 400's and dropping the K's.. but i love how ridiculously bright k's are .. lol

i always go back and forth between the k and the 6's.. do a bunch of reading before you sell yourself on the K's.. if your running vert, which i think about doing, 600's make way more since.. K's get real hot.. just my .02

actually I am planning running 4 ks with a flipbox and xxxl reflector hoods, do you think 7 and 1/2 feet is enough hight to run them?
alsow another question, since I never ran Ks befoure, do I have to went the hoods rinning Ks? I never done so with smaller wattage, but I know they get wicked hot, would suck to ruin a new setup....

totally dead and not worth the time, if they come back at all, they're never gonna produce... if you change your mind and decide to stick with hydro, i would recommend a res chiller, if you add it to the system, it will keep those roots nice and cool... sorry bout your babies man... that sucks...

also, bg: if you are going to run that size, you probably are going to have problems with heat and burning the tops... 4's and 6's can and do regularly work quite well in that short a space, but the 1ks are probably going to need a bit more height than that unless you are going go with a short scrog setup...

whoa! i would be super worried about kicking in 4 K's.. especially if you havent run one before and the heat build up can be massive.. As a matter of fact, my water cooled A/c unit was put together to help the window A/c unit manage 3 K's and frankly they aren't cutting it, i still have to evac air every 3-4 hours.. and i did this, during the winter to mitigate heat so i can save up for a big old A/c unit (3 or 5 ton)..

I would be real concerned with heat build up in a room with 4 K's.. on the other hand, I have run those xxxl's (just pawned off a few of em) they do help a lot, where is the new air coming from? how far are you shuttling the old/hot air? those hoods coloect a ton of dirt on the inside, run a filter for your intake. you can't run one inline ducting for the four K's since the last in the chain will never get cold air..

Hello all,Current project is in the works, I have something small going now, but am expanding in hopes of getting OK'ed by the state. Heres the smaller set up, plants are now 12" tall. Also a picture of last crop, Great White Shark harvested 1 month ago. Curing as I speak, probably has 1 or 2 weeks left

Just wondering. Also while I have you, can you give me a rundown on your nute line? Thanks ... Just trying to gain as must info. Looks like I will be going to Augusta real soon and picking up some garb.
