Hey Greenthum!! If you have a digital ballast, I would definately go with the Digilux bulb over the Hortilux...

The E39 is the "base" that the bulb screws into. The only HID bulbs I've seen (400w, 600w, 1000w and 1500w) use the E39 base.

How's it going everybody?:bigjoint:

So I watered my clones last night with some beneficial bacteria and a root stimulator to try and get a good root system before I start trying to feed nutes. Next water I will try 1/4 strength nutes on a few plants to see how they take to it. All of the plants are looking very lush and healthy. Makes me proud:-P

looking amazing man!!! Don't know if you saw in zibras thread, he is hella hookin me up with all kinds of cool gear and told me to ask your advice on soils, as well as the nutes in the soil. He got me the general hydroponics complete organic line up. have you used them before? I am using some organic soil from my local lowes.

Good Day Doggies

So sorry that I have been unable these past few days to post. I have been really busy with something that I would like to share with you ...

For the past month, a friend of mine (25 years younger than I) had his niece abducted from their home in the middle of the night. At first LEO's were stating that it was a missing child, and for the past two weeks, changed it to, possible foul play. The little girl's name is Ayla, and from Maine. My friend and I are tight, as he always turned to me for guidance when things where going south for him. When I learned of this happening a month ago, I put my hand out, and he grabbed it. I did not want him to be alone on Christmas, so my family invited him over, just so that he could get away from it all, at least for a few hours. We have remained tight throughout, but they have had very little to say, or help out, especially with the media.

Behind the scenes, but with his knowledge, I have been working with NBC and the Today Show. I, as well as many others across this State, Country and even Canada, are doing what we can do bring Ayla home, safe and sound. We have never, nor will we, give up hope that she be safely returned home to her Mom and Dad, even though they are not together any longer (prior to this event). Tonight, at 11:30 PM, despite my usual bedtime of 9:00 pm, I was interviewed by NBC and the Today show, for an update that will air in the morning at 7:30 EST. It was something that I needed to do, for I need to keep Ayla's name in the forefront of all media.

All day long, I reached out to my friend, and he never returned a call nor any of my countless texts. They were in essence, that now was the prime opportunity of placing a cry for help. I take it as they are scared to talk to the media, for they feel that every time they do, it gets twisted around. I repeatedly told him, as well as Ayla's father, that this was not the case, and that if they were uncomfortable to answer a specific question, all they had to say was that they did not want to answer it. Simple enough. They have not been asking for any coverage nationally, but stay local and only with newsprint. (Circulation appx 20,000). Here I am, not even affiliated other than a friend, and I just did an interview that will be reached out to over 8 Million viewers. I know if I was in their shoes, I think I would have grabbed hold and gone with it, despite any fear about myself, but to have my child returned home, safe and sound.

I think I may have lost a friend, whose friendship I cherished and loved. But it is not about a friendship to me. It is about finding a Lost and Missing Child. Period.

I thank you so very much for allowing me the opportunity to share, and also vent my frustration on this matter that has plagued me for over a month. If you wish, you may post here, or PM me. I love all my friends here on Doggie Nuts, for I feel at home, and a part of Community and Friendship with all that enter this great thread.

God Bless ~ And Let's Get Ayla Home

Hey thanks man, Im checking it out right now. I want to upgrade my ballast to a air cooled to, should this one work out all good?

Ballast?? You mean your reflector lol?? :eyesmoke:

That one should do ya just fine! Sounds perfect for your tent size (werent you getting a 4x4?)...

If you plan on expanding your grow anytime in the near future, I would I highly suggest getting a larger reflector that has a larger footprint, but that one will light your ladies up good in a 4x4.

Hey papapayne!! :-P

I did see zibra's thread last night (I was super baked though and half-asleep :eyesmoke:)!! That's so cool of him to hook you up like that!!

As far as the nutrients go, I have not used them before so I really dont know what to tell ya to look out for with those. DO NOTuse the suggested amounts on the bottle. Start out on a couple of plants at 1/4 strength and see how they do. (I wouldnt suggest using it on your whole crop until you know how the ladies will take it).

You WILLneed a soil pH tester (if you dont already have one) You can find pretty nice digital ones at HomeDepot for around $15. I like to try & keep pH between 6.5-6.8 and never let it get above 7.0. pH is a pretty big deal, especially when the plants are so young and tender.

In soil, different nutrients are taken up into the plant at different pH levels. If the pH falls too low or rises too high the plant will not be able to uptake all the nutrients it needs to thrive. This is usually the cause of nutrient deficiencies with new growers...the pH gets out of whack, the plant cannot uptake all the nutrients it needs, the grower sees what looks like a nute def. so gives it more nutrients, which in turn kills the plant when the problem to begin with was pH being out of whack, not a lack of nutes.

Wait until about a 1/2in to 1in under the soil surface is dry to water. Overwatering will suffocate roots, causing root rot. Also when roots are constantly wet they dont have a reason to "search" for water, which is a bad thing. You want the roots to "search" for water throughout the container, which makes for good root growth. At the same time, though, never let the roots dry up...they always need to be moist.

Here's GH's feeding schedules...
http://generalhydroponics.com/site/index.php/resources/feeding_schedule/
Again, do not feed full strength!! They will need to get used to accepting all these nutes. If the plants take well to it, I will usually try 1/2strength on the second or third water.

Hope this helps ya out a little papapayne. If you have any other questions just hit me up here or PM me. :peace:

Thanks man, yea looks like ph meter is needed. I had some left over aquarium test strips but they are not at all accurate and aren't soil meters, just waster. Over watering has been my battle. Now that they are in the real pots and out of peat pots been easier. Had some nute burn with other stuff so had to flush, so definitely will take it easy on the strength of the general hydro stuff.

As far as soil ph, what do you use to lower and raise? I know there's lime/sulfur for soil and there's also ph up and down for water so wanted to hear what you recommend.

Yea zibra is like my bad ass growing sponsor. He hooking me up with a new digital dimmable switchable ballast, new MH and HPS bulb, new air cooled reflector, the nutes, and has a practically new 4x4x8 tent and some other goodies for me. Its like my birthday and xmas rolled into one.

Where I'm at I never have to worry about my pH getting too low, it always gets too high b/c my well water is about 7.2-7.4. I use one of my natural nutes to lower pH when I need it (usually when I mix all of my nutes my pH drops to around 6.5, so I dont need it often). However, in your case it would probably be a bit different b/c water is different everyewhere ya go and we're not using the same nutes. I would probably use something natural such as vinegar, lemon juice, or lime to lower pH. I'm not a big fan of the synthetic pH up & down b/c it would kill off the beneficial bacteria I use in my plants, may not be a prob for you though if you arent using beneficials...

Your soil ph if high will be corrected by your feed cause mine drops to 5.8 but my soil ph rasies it to 6.8-7.0

Great grow and thread grandaddy P. All of your ladies are choice, but I think I'm head over heels for that white rhino in the veg. Can wait to see your yields, thanks for the education and encouragement. I start my first grow very soon.
