What is the problem with limited government? Wisecracks aside, How has this gotten out of control? What the fuck is wrong with stateside governing? Has someone come out an officially say the constitution is trash? If so, America has been defeated.. Americans now should fall back on the founding documents and follow suit. Are we submitting to gentle tyranny? Or is this the way its meant to be? ..Should I really even give a shit? bongsmilie

If you read the papers related to the founding of the government you will see they knew this would happen eventually and that the government would have to be reset. They were some really wise people.

They were incredibly wise.. Dedicated whole lives to the cause of Liberty and preservation of freedom.. But I guess what I'm getting at is, has "this" already happened.

I don't know why everyone is so interested in limiting government? Government needs to step in where free markets fail, and with a small government you need honest people. I like the idea of giving states more freedoms of some things, but that could lead to problems as well.

Did you just slyly play the race card? Getting predictible Buck, you need a new M.O., keep them wondering.
i was pointing out another historical figure who fought for states' rights, yet you are so sensitive that you feel i am playing the race card.

the tenth amendment is a fairly weak amendment, and is bound by everything else in the constitution:

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

the first part means that states are not allowed to pass their own laws that usurp the other parts of the constitution. so many people, like wallace, like to ignore certain parts of the constitution to favor others. the OP feels we are ignoring the constitution and submitting to tyranny.

perhaps he could articulate exactly where these failings are occurring so we can have an actual debate about it, otherwise he leaves it open for people like me to mock and belittle the blind allegiance to "states' rights".

With the current interpretation of the commerce clause there is no limit to the power of the federal government, and that is just the way the feds like it.

Oh, and on the race card, that is exactly what you did, UB. Trot out a position held by George Wallace and use Wallace's namd as a smear.

State's rights as defined in the 10th is a very respectable and very constitutional position. The constitution is by definition a document that limits federal power.

Why can't the Federal Govt just manage Defense and Diplomacy? The States can handle the rest, there are successful countries that run EVERYTHING that are much smaller than most of the individual States.

the question i was responding to was "what is wrong with stateside governing?"

i gave a clear, cogent example, and your sensitive ass accused me of playing the race card.

if you don't like my counterexamples, you can cry in your corn flakes. i did not have race in mind, i had a counterexample in mind. YOU are clearly the one with race in mind.

actually, the constitution limits states' power as well. the very first line in the tenth amendment limits its scope to what is not already provided for in the other parts of the constitution.

so you are only half right.

because then george wallace gets to segregate schools, that's why.
The race thing is getting REALLY old man, it's pretty pathetic at this stage.

I bet you're the one secretly wearing the "ghost costume" and throwing burning lower case t's in peoples gardens since you're so obsessed with it.

it's not about race. you are the one seeing race, not me.

my counterexample refers to usurping other parts of the constitution in favor of states' rights, which the tenth amendment does not allow for.

i wouldn't be upset and get defensive if someone used race in an counterexample against something i said, so why are you getting so defensive? do you think i'm calling you a racist?

you seem to be hyper-sensitive as if you have something to hide.

am i not allowed to point out where the states' rights argument goes wrong?

It's just always about race with you tho.
Dont like Barack? Racist.
Don't think US should prop up Israel? Racist.

And now, if you support states rights then you want schools segregated...it's endless and intellectually dishonest.

when did i say supporting states' rights makes you personally in favor of segregating schools? i pointed out a problem with "states' rights", namely the consequences of going too far.

the tenth amendment dictates that you follow all other parts of the constitution first, something wallace did not do. did i say you share george wallace's belief on the issue? if you can find it and quote it, i'll send you a free ounce or a crate of whiskey, your choice.

same offer applies if you can find where i say disagreeing with barack makes you racist or having differing views on israel makes you racist
