Dan Senor: Condoleezza Rice is Pursuing the VP Spot

ABCNews’ Mary Bruce Reports: Secretary of State Condoleezza

Rice is actively courting the Vice Presidential nomination, according to Republican Strategist Dan Senor. “Condi Rice has been actively, actually in recent weeks, campaigning for this,” Senor said this morning on “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.”

According to Senor, Rice has been cozying up to the Republican elite.

“There's this ritual in Washington, the Americans for Tax Reform, which is headed by Grover Norquist, he holds a weekly meeting of conservative leaders, about 100, 150 people, sort of inside, chattering, class types,” Senor explained. “They all typically get briefings from political conservative leaders. Ten days ago, they had an interesting visit. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. The first time a Secretary of State has visited the Wednesday Meeting.”

Senor explained that Rice’s history in public office would make her a prime candidate, especially in light of Senator John McCain’s emphasis on experience throughout his campaign. “What the McCain campaign has to consider is whether or not they want to pick a total outsider, a fresh face, someone a lot younger than him, a governor who people aren't that familiar with. The challenge they're realizing is that they'll have to have to spend 30-45 days, which they won't have at that point, educating the American public about who this person is,” Senor said. “The other category is someone who people instantly say, the second they see that announcement, I get it, that person could be president tomorrow. Condi Rice is an option.”

ha ha this may be just what the left needs, its own destruction:mrgreen:
it would be nice to believe that the left could rise like the phoenix from the ashes of its own destruction with a renewed sense of purpose and a true willingness to aid the people. that might cause a similar revitalization on the other side of the aisle. i'm afraid there is little reason to hope for such an occurrence. we've grown so used to the entire tawdry business that all these animals need do is put a new face to the same tired rhetoric, knowing that at least a portion of the public will applaud them for their bold new stance.

Well anything that would tie McCain closer to the Bush administration will be a bonus for the democrats. I'm not sure why they would actually want to do this since the whole message of change has been very strong.

I think if I were a republican or advising one I would wait to even consider anyone until I were to see how people start reacting once the Democratic primary is over. Things will change a lot then, and who might be a great asset in the landscape of today may kill the whole thing in 4 months time. Also, considering the Republicans don't seem to have as many strong younger canidates, they may want to look in that area. Because win or lose being the VP canidate can help promote someone for the next election.

Let's say that Hillary gets the Demo's nomination and appoints O'Bama as her VP running mate. Now, let's suppose McCain appoints Condi for his VP running mate. What do you suppose the debates between Condi and O'Bama would be like? Personally, I think it would be like the big sister taking her little brother out to the woodshed. :blsmoke:

Doubtful, Obama is a better speaker then anyone of the canidates left, to think anyone would take him "out to the woodshed" would be crazy. I would think Condi would be bad in a debate in general, there's just too much to call her out on considering the last 3 years. Besides, it doesn't seem likely that Hillary will be involved for much longer, she needs to win each primary by something like 10% to catch Obama and some of the more recent poles in Pennsylvania have been very close, some ties, and Obama has even been up in them.

I don't really feel the experience issue will carry anyone this time around. Considering the state of America this minute Change is a far more powerful message. No one wants to hear about being in Iraq for another 100 years, and certainly aren't ready for a president who says we would still be in Vietnam if it were up to him.

Personally I am willing to bet that once the Demo primaries are buttoned up, and the staunchly pro Hillary/Obama crowd calm down after a month or so you will see the polls start to show a very strong Pro-demo (or likely more anti-republican) bias this time around.

how anyone like the mccain carbunkle on bush's ass could get elected I don't know unless the christian evangelicals feel that there is no other choice and there isn't i mean how many of them would vote for a democrat. lets face it we are going to be under the conservative regime for years to come the democrats don't stand a chance. I wish hillary would win but with a conservative in the running it ain't gonna happen. but hey i could be wrong maybe condie would fuck things up for the republican party. i'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Most republican strategist are saying that Rice in the VP spot would be a death knell to the McCain campaign. She is too tied to the Bush Administration, she wasn't very effective as a secretary of state and is incompetent when it comes to foreign policy.... By all means Condoleezza Rice, run for VP.
Maybe she could get her old job back on the board of directors at Exxon/Mobil

There's pretty much zero chance that McCain will take Condi as running mate. He's trying to NOT look like a continuation of the Bush administration. Likewise Colin Powell because he is associated in people's minds with 'lying' about the WMD threat. And Leiberman, please. Picking an independent would just alienate the right wing of the GOP without which McCain can't win. Same with Bloomberg whose name keeps coming up. Nice guy, but he can't decide which party to belong to. McCain is going to go with someone like Tim Pawlenty, gov of Minnesota, who would please lots of folks mcCain needs and doesn't have a huge trail of baggage to deal with.

Oh, and Condi and Obama wouldn't meet in a debate, unless Obama was running for veep, which he isn't and I can't see the scenario where he would.

Ultimatly don't most analysts say that the VP choice doesn't really matter all that much? Like obviously it can hurt you, but picking a super conservative or moderate isn't going to bring in the big numbers from either groups if you don't already have them.

Personally, I think with McCain being 71 years old now, it might matter a little more who his running mate is. He's a tough old guy but he's a cancer survivor and not a spring chicken. On the other hand, my dad is ten years older than him and could probably kick his ass!

No knock on your dad, but McCain can't lift his arms above shoulder level. I think my mom could take him.

Honestly, McCain probably wouldn't know where he was if the phone rang at 3am. But apparently, they pay people to answer phones at that hour. Reguardless, I am sure it will take our next president to get up and get to the phone quicket then our current President took to get off his ass and address the fact that we were under an apparent terrorist attack.

I don't think there are enough looney evangelicles (kind of like testicles, they want to hang just below a giant dick) to support a repuke lead. Even those guys might grow a few brain cells this time. I wonder how proponents of Jesus' way could support never-ending war? What would Jesus do, vote for McCain, HAHAHEHEHOHO~LOL~< I doubt it>..What is the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

The only people that she's a nightmare to are orthodontists. They should unite and put to rest the strife going on between her two front teeth.
