it's not supposed to be funny, it's supposed to be controversial.
you can't honestly believe this ad was created other than to get a rise out of people, can you?

there's no way these people didn't know the ad was wrong, this is exactly what they wanted. ad goes up, tweets are tweeted, posts get posted, news helps put it out there. and before you know it belvedere vodka is a trending fucking topic lol.

i worked in an ad agency for four years up until a month ago, i've talked about my job on here a bunch of times.
no advertising agency would do an ad like this for a client unless it was what the client wanted.
Well as you know it obviously worked, it got RIU talking about it, hell a nice drink of Vodka sounds good right now, and since I don't have any when I go to the store, it's the brand that's going to be on my mind.

Canna the coming from behind joke was funny, as was the Santorum comment (BA142) LOL. Stay High

LOL irony, yes u do care, u just disagree with others ;)
no, not at all.
and it's not really a disagreement, just giving people an insight on the whole purpose of the ad.

i said i don't care about the ad... i still don't

and i even said that the whole purpose of the ad was to stir up controversy, which only shows that i understand why people would find it offensive.
so in a way i'm actually agreeing with the ones who find it offensive.

Actually, I don't find any of these offensive except the rug one. There's joking, there's self-deprecation for humor, deprecation of others for humor... then there's rape. She looks shocked and distressed, paired with the bar context and involvement of alcohol (place of picking up vulnerable drunk women/drink spiking), paired with the caption implying the guy has just grabbed her intending to bring her down/have her go down on him/whatever other implied dominance or violence that makes it just a tad more distasteful than a surprise buttsecks macro. I'll tell you to get over it when you have flashbacks, or should I carve you a vagina so you can feel it for yourself..

rape? whaaaaaat? Nah. she looks a bit surprised perhaps at his girth and or size... or, maybe that's her "OH" face? She is sitting "down" on him, which isn't easy because he's packin' a big bone or something. assuming the worst is always too easy.
Yeah, or he might've just slipped it in the wrong hole.

When i saw the ad, my first through fifth impressions were that what "wasn't going down smooth" was a spectacularly dorky (and somewhat literal) pickup attempt by a guy with that Clueless About Women smile. (It was HE who wasn't Going Down Smooth in my view.) In this instance, I would say that the rape subtext is in the eye of the beholder. It's like the ancient tale of the sex-crime detainee being given a Rorschach exam. For each pic, he comes up with a graphic, lurid and rather off-the-beaten-track description.

"Wow ... it's all about weird&violent sex for you, isn't it" quoth the repulsed psychiatrist (shrinking away).

"Gosh, Doc ... YOU're the one showing me all the dirty pictures!"

Don't apologize, Kuroi. You have very real and personal reasons for viewing the ad with distaste ... and let's face it; as ganjames pointed out, the ad was deliberately crafted to be risqué. Your interpretation is just as right as mine. cn

Haha wow it's so not rape. Look at the picture closely. She's clearly sitting on his lap, and if you loo at the bottom pair of hands she's calmly holding his hand. The top set is pulling that one hand away. So to me it looks like she was sitting on his lap having a good time and his hands on her hips you know like normal people do and it looks like he got a little too drunk and grabbed her boob. Which like most women would surprise the hell out of them so she quickly goes to move his hand. Which is where the not smooth part is. Get it now? No rape is going on. It's obviously someone who isn't very smooth at making the moves.
